If you begin to detect an unpleasant odor even after cleaning the filter at home, it is likely that you need to replace the filter.

Should You Use a Carbon Filter in Your Growing Area?

The answer to that question is an emphatic one. For keeping the stench from your growing area out of your home and away from your neighbors, carbon filters are the most effective alternative. More significantly, they are the most effective method of ensuring that even the most fresh air is used by your plants for growth. It’s important to note that there are various short-term treatments available, such as air purifiers or neutralizing sprays and powders, that you can employ. Having said that, these instruments will not totally eliminate the odor from your growing operation, nor will they completely eliminate any dust particles that may have escaped from your grow space.

I believe that many of the evaluations on this site are exaggerated, and that some of them may be written by friends; yet, they do explain the characteristics and virtues, and I will not repeat or contradict them (except for that fan). The following tip: If the fan and filter will be placed inside of the tent, make sure to turn them up as high as possible right away to avoid any snags later on.

  • Now, let’s talk about the fan.
  • Full speed is not required with this little tent; but, when you turn it down to a lower level, it is impossible to find a setting that does not result in a penetrating whine that can be heard throughout the entire home, regardless of how “loud” it is set.
  • I first configured it in this manner, and it is vented to the outside through an insert panel with duct collar that I designed specifically for the sliding window.
  • I left the filter outside (VENTING OUTSIDE) because the aim was to free up as much space as possible in the tent for the drying rack; but, the room started to smell when I did.
  • I discovered that the duct had hundreds of tiny holes and was spewing skunk into the room, so I replaced it with a multi-layer duct, which helped some but left a strong odor in the room until today.
  • I replaced the fan, and the odor has now been eliminated.
  • And, if you’re concerned about power consumption, consider upgrading to a more energy-efficient fan – the one I purchased to replace it consumes less than 18W at maximum speed and is rated to move more air than this 50W one.
