What Does Enlarge Your Tent Mean

“Enlarge the place of your tent; Stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, spare not; Lengthen your cords And strengthen your pegs.

  7. The drapes that cover thine dwellings.

It is often used in our society to refer to the cloth that hangs over a bed or at a window and may be spread or drawn aside at will, as well as the cloth that is draped over the stage in theaters to conceal the stage from the audience.

Never skimp on supplies for considerably expanding the tent in which you will be living.

Increase the length of your cables – (See the note atIsaiah 33:20).

There is no such thing as a formalized euphemism (Isa 49:19, 20; Jer 31:31-36, 38, 39).

Curtains are the pieces of material that constitute the tent’s outer covering.

The Church’s mission is not only to find new converts, but also to strengthen those who are already believers in the faith.

Extend the area of thy tent so that it may accommodate the Gentiles who will flock to thee in vast numbers and seek to be associated with thee in the future.

The implication is that they must and will be pushed out farther.

Extend the area where thy tent will be.

They first went as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching only to Jews; however, when the Jews completely rejected the Gospel, they turned to the Gentiles and went everywhere preaching the word, Acts 11:19, and their ministry was blessed, resulting in the conversion of large numbers of people and the establishment of Gospel churches in every part of the world, as recorded in Acts.

Strengthen Your Stakes

Let them spread out the curtains of thy habitations, and don’t be afraid to make thy tent bigger. Make your ropes longer and your stakes stronger; don’t be afraid to use more material. THROUGH THE EXPOSITORY (ENGLISH BIBLE)(2)Make the area where thy tent will be larger. Isaiah 33:20 and Jeremiah 10:20 both contain interesting parallels. In Isaiah 54:2-3, the Bible says Increase the size of thy tent so that it will be able to accommodate the Gentiles who will flock to thee in large numbers and desire to be associated with thee in the coming days.

— What this means is that they must and will be stretched out.

Assemble thy stakes, and strengthen them so that they will be able to withstand the immense weight of the tent once it has been expanded.

Expansion of your tent, and letting them extend out the curtains of your homes; do not spare; (do not hold back) lengthening your ropes, and strengthening your posts” (Isaiah 54:2-3). 3 Due to the fact that you will spread out to the right as well as the left, and your descendants will inherit the nations as well as populate the deserted cities, Over the course of many days, the Lord has placed this passage in front of me, along with the little word ENLARGE (enlarge). I find myself playing games with compliance more often than I do just following orders.

  • I find this poetry to be quite particular, as if it came directly from His heart.
  • Perhaps you require the same shove that I did.let us dare to believe for a little longer.
  • When a word is said, the path of events is stirred.
  • To be able to listen to additional fee.

  • A vision for the future that is prophetic in nature Because if they don’t have this, they’re left naked and too exposed.

There’s a lot of work to be done; you’ll probably have to knock down walls and build in unexpected spaces.

Because faith continues to move forward.

Increase the stakes and make them as deep as possible since pressure will inevitably emerge.

In order to accommodate for expansion to the right and left, You’ll need to recruit new recruits.

As a result, extend the length of the ropes for greater reach.

Perhaps your idea has been on hold for a time because it necessitates the exploration of new territory.

* Perhaps the vision has come to a halt because you have not yet prepared for its arrival.

Expanding one’s area of influence may also imply bringing on additional individuals. enhance the amount of capacity or reach you have* To expand your horizons, you must anticipate what has yet to be seen. To travel beyond the realm of sight, trust will be required.

“Increase the size of your tent and the length of your habitations’ curtains; do not hold back; extend your ropes and reinforce your posts. ” Because you will spread over the world to the right and to the left” (Isaiah 54:2-3a ESV). Are you a Christian who is afraid to speak out? For whatever reason, you may be a Type A personality in every aspect of your life, but for whatever reason, you may not approach your religious life with the same enthusiasm. Perhaps you are intimidated by the vastness and majesty of God’s might and presence.

  1. I’ve got some exciting news for you.
  2. In that case, you will be forced to choose between hiding below deck and waiting to perish or exercising spiritual muscle and doing all it takes to guarantee that your boat does not capsize.
  3. While the cyclone rages all around you, you may be fully at ease and unburdened by any obligations.
  4. In truth, there is a great deal of calm to be found in a mature and developing religious belief.
  5. Some of the prophet Isaiah’s remarks appear to be a little weird to us.
  6. However, because it’s only “little ol’ me,” we argue, “why should I require a larger tent?” It reminds me of the day Elisha’s servant hurried into the house, terrified, and informed Elisha that the city was being besieged by a military force (2 Kings 6:15-23).
  7. God answered his prayer, opening the eyes of Elisha’s servant to see what Elisha had previously seen by faith, and when God did, Elisha’s servant saw horses and chariots of fire all over the mountain, a swarm of angels!
  8. We are to respond in faith, like Elisha did, by believing in the unseen and acting on our faith!
  9. Increase the length of your cords and the strength of your stakes.
  10. There isn’t much for the winds to latch onto right now.

Longer cords allow for more stretch, which reduces the influence of the wind. Furthermore, heavier stakes are difficult to remove, ensuring that the cords have a secure grasp.

So, what does all of this mean for usspiritually?

There is something to be said for being content in one’s life. In fact, Paul assures us, “.I have learnt to be satisfied in whatsoever position I find myself in.” I know how to be brought to my knees as well as how to be abundant. No matter what situation I find myself in, I have discovered the key to dealing with plenty and hunger, abundance and need” (Philippians 4:11-12 ESV). However, we must remember that Paul is referring to circumstantial happiness rather than spiritual contentment in this passage.

  • The idea from Hell that we have “arrived” spiritually is something we should never accept.
  • While gaining ground, we must also expand our tents in order to take ownership of more of what God has in store for us on a spiritual level.
  • As I previously stated, merely pitching a larger tent would result in it catching more wind and being unstable.
  • Increasing the length of our cords, in my opinion, is achieved by the learning from our own life experiences (and the life experiences of others!).
  • He protected a few enormous trees in this region so that he might have them in his yard.
  • A storm passed through a little time afterwards.
  • Because they were shielded by the surrounding trees, the trees in the forest had grown huge and beautiful, despite the fact that they had never actually been exposed to the elements.

As it turns out, the winds and storms of life teach us to push ourselves to our limits.

It is only by persistent protection that one may develop a weak and immature faith.

I think that we do this by the study, learning, internalization, and application of God’s Word in our life.

Even though you should be qualified to teach at this point, you require someone to refresh your memory on the fundamental concepts of God’s oracles.

Solid food, on the other hand, is for the mature, for those who have developed their powers of discernment by regular exercise to discriminate between good and evil” (Hebrews 5:12-14 ESV).

Even a higher number of little posts holding our tents together would be insufficient.

“Him we preach, warning everyone and instructing everyone with all knowledge, so that we may present everyone mature in Christ,” Paul wrote in Romans 1:20.

One piece of the puzzle is never enough to complete the picture.

“Increase the size of your tent and the length of your habitations’ curtains; do not hold back; extend your ropes and reinforce your posts. ” Because you will spread over the world to the right and to the left” (Isaiah 54:2-3a ESV).

Isaiah 54:2 – Meaning and Commentary on Bible Verse

Isaiah 54:2 (KJV) Extend the area where thy tent will be. It is to this that the church is compared, because of its insecure and movable condition, being sometimes in one place, and sometimes in another; and because of its outward meanness and weakness, as well as its small extent; but now it is signified that it should be enlarged, and room be made for an accession of new inhabitants toit; or, in other words, that the Gospel church state should not be confined to Jerusalem, but should take place in other parts of Judea, Galilee, and In this verse, the phrase “and let them extend forth the curtains of thinehabitation” refers to the curtains from which tents or tabernacles are built, which were traditionally spread over the ground on poles or stakes in order to provide additional space and capacity for more people.

This may refer to the apostles’ preaching of the Gospel and the success of their efforts, particularly among the Gentiles; they may be said to have stretched out the curtains of the tent, the church, when they went out and preached the Gospel to every creature in accordance with their command.

The Apostle Paul, who traveled from Jerusalem to the vicinity of Illyricum, fully preaching the Gospel of Christ (Romans 15:19), was a notable tool in the process of drawing these curtains closed.

Let them extend out the curtains of thine habitations, enlarging the space around your tent and strengthening your posts. Don’t skimp on anything; lengthen your ropes and reinforce your stakes. (Isaiah 54:2 King James Version) What a divine directive from the Almighty! He directs His people to expand the size of their tent and to draw the curtains of their houses closer to the ground. Who knows why He wants them to do these things. The reason for this is given in the next verse: “For thou shalt burst out on the right hand and on the left; and thy descendants shall possess the Gentiles, and make the barren cities inhabitable” (Isa.

Enlarging the Place of our Tent – Hope Church

In order to maximize the space available for your tent, open your tent curtain completely and without hesitation; lengthen your ropes and reinforce your stakes. Isaiah 54:2 (KJV) After graduating from high school, I went to live with a family in a rural part in eastern Africa for a few months after graduation. They had a residence and a base of operations, but the individuals with whom they worked were itinerant. This meant that we had to live in tents on occasion. The weather was dry and warm, with gusts of wind blowing throughout the afternoons.

  • We were able to set things up in a number of configurations based on the demands of the day by adjusting cables and posts, and we were protected from the wind and dust.
  • I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately because of all the debates surrounding our property.
  • We are not modifying our tent, but we are increasing its space by “stretching the curtain open wide” to make it more visible to our community and to better communicate our invitation to them.
  • It will take a lot of effort to create place for the folks who are “on their way up,” as they say.
  • It is possible that stretching will be unpleasant at times.
  • He assists us in going beyond our personal limitations in order to expand our love for others and become more closely knit as a community.
  • For example, our “big shady tree” may be a local company, such as a coffee shop or restaurant, as well as a community festival or sporting event, our green area, a public park, or even someone’s backyard.

It’s possible that it’s one of our houses. What areas of your life does God want to stretch you in? Peggy Turnbull contributed to this article.

The notion that “this is as far as I can go” is an ally of the anti-enlargement movement. Have you ever felt like you’d reached your limit? Perhaps you’ve reached the end of your capabilities. Alternatively, the limit of your patience. Alternatively, it might be the limit of your ability in a certain job. Alternatively, it might be the limit of your ability to press on in God. Alternatively, the limit of your ability to obey God. There are those days when God permits us to recognize our own limitations.

  • What makes it tough is recognizing the gap between what we are able to do and what we desire to achieve, and, more crucially, the gap between what we believe God has called us to do.
  • It has the potential to elicit feelings of frustration, sadness, and despair.
  • He wants us to be more aware of our limitations as human beings so that we might be humbled by our experiences in life.
  • We have a tendency to think more highly of ourselves than we should.
  • However, this is not the end of the story.
  • Creation comes to know his reliance on his Creator in this zone of enlightenment.
  • As soon as we realize that we’ve reached the end of our rope, we may begin to rely on God and His grace.

Suppose we confess to God that we are short on patience, and God responds by telling us that He genuinely wishes to provide a reservoir of patience!

Her limitation was her inability to produce fruit on her own, despite her best efforts.

Isaiah 54:1-3 is a biblical passage.

Exert yourselves in song and scream loudly, “You who have not struggled with a child!” “For the children of the desolate outnumber the offspring of the married woman,” declares the Lord of hosts.

While God promised her enlargement, He also provided her with guidelines from which we might acquire the appropriate attitudes that will prepare us for enlargement.

While the sermon today may be primarily focused on growing our spiritual flocks, the same concepts apply in other areas where we have identified our own limitations and need to enable God to enlarge or expand us.

The Right Attitude Towards Enlargement

1. Sing O Barren – Rejoice in the Lord! Have believe in yourself. According to the prophet Isaiah, the prophesy was directed to the one who had not yet produced fruit. According to the Lord, she should sing. She has every reason to be happy. Why? Because the season of fruitfulness is upon us. The infertile woman was constrained in a very specific way. In her natural state, she lacked the ability to create food on her own. This is also true on a spiritual level. True spiritual fruit cannot be produced by humans since we lack the power to do so.

  • For the barren lady in Isaiah 54, to rejoice meant that she had to put her faith in the Lord’s promise that God would multiply her progeny’s numbers.
  • As a result, we must use praise to arouse feelings of joy and faith in our hearts.
  • Make your tent larger.
  • They increase the size of their tents by simply adding another section to the existing tent (“Manners and Customs: Tents in the Ancient World,”Bible-history.com).
  • We shouldn’t be restricted to what or who we currently have at our disposal.
  • We must put forth the necessary effort to make place for additional people.
  • Work is required for enlargement.

The amount of hard effort that the women of biblical times had to put in in order to construct tents serves as an illustration of this principle.

Women woven the fabric for the tents, sewed them together, and maintained the tents’ structural integrity.

The Hebrew women were strong and talented, and they worked as a group, which we would consider to be difficult work.” ‘Houses and Tents,’ according to Bible-archaeology.info.

Faith and patience are required in order to obtain the promises.

We can’t solely rely on religion to get us through life.

According to Hebrews 6:11-12, we are supposed to be people who put forth a lot of effort.

It states in this text that both faith and patience are required.

We are instructed in James 5:7 to compare the patience we must have with the patience a hardworking farmer: “Be patient, just as the Lord your God is patient with you.” As a result, brothers and sisters, please be patient until the Lord returns.

The unprofitable servant in Matthew 25:14-30, who was given one talent but simply decided that he did not want it expanded, so he just buried it, is an example of what we should avoid doing.

As a result, we must resist the temptation to be easily satisfied.

The same approach must be used to the method in which we reach out to individuals in the present day.

It is a complement, not a substitute.

Allow “them” to push you to your limits.

Who exactly are “they”?

This implies that we must enable people to push us to our limits.

It’s the equivalent of having more children.

Existing concerns and requirements will be replaced by new ones.

This implies that we must allow them to complete the task they are performing in us.

However, keep in mind that the rewards are significantly larger.

When exercising, if you do not feel that your muscle is being injured, the stretching is not going to be beneficial.

The loads that have been placed on our shoulders have been placed there for a good cause.

They help us to increase our ability to love.

This was one of the things that Mark, the author of the Gospels, was unable to do the first time around.

Although it took some time, Mark ultimately agreed to the stretching, and the Apostle Paul afterwards referred to him as “profitable” (2 Timothy 4:11).

We owe it to the Lord and His flock to provide our best effort.

When it comes to growth, don’t just stop at what you think you’re capable of doing.

For example, consider what happened during the feeding of the five thousand: Luke 9:12-14 (KJV) Eventually, as the day was drawing to a close, the twelve came to Him and instructed Him to “send the throng away, so that they may go into the neighboring cities and country, and lodge and acquire sustenance; for we are in a desolate location here.” “However, you must provide them with something to eat,” He instructed them.

  • “We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we go out and purchase food for all of these people,” they confessed to one another.
  • When the disciples reached the limit of their ability and realized that the need was far larger than what they could provide, they simply stated, “This is as far as we can go, and we are unable to accomplish it.” They did not inquire of Jesus as to how the need might be addressed.
  • The people were not expelled because of Jesus’ actions.
  • In an interesting twist, when they had served the five thousand guys, there was still enough food left over for twelve baskets.
  • Understanding that where our power stops is where God’s grace starts is critical for us to grasp.
  • Extend the length of your chords.
  • When it comes to His promise, the Lord is not slack as some would have us believe, but is longsuffering toward us, not wishing for any to perish but rather that all come to repentance.

When did we first begin to actually walk with God?

At the very least, it took more than two decades for all of us to get here.

God’s patience with us is exemplified in this way.

When we allow God to extend our cords, we are allowing our sense of self-righteousness and critical spirit to be smashed.

In order to keep the tent in place, stakes are sharp pieces of wood that are pounded into the ground.

Their strength allows them to keep the tent firmly in place even under extreme weather conditions.

The tent is held in place by stakes.

According to Ephesians 3:17, we are to be firmly planted and founded in love.

Our love for God and our love for others are what will enable us to go the distance, to go beyond our personal boundaries, and to expand.

As recorded in John 21, the Apostle Peter was confronted with the question, “Do you love Me more than these?” by Jesus.

“Do you agapelove Me more than these?” you might wonder.

This time, Peter does not make the declaration, “Lord, I will dedicate my life to You,” as he did previously.

What, however, did Jesus have to say in response?

Then Jesus asks Peter the same question a second time and instructs him to “tend My sheep.” “Do youphileolove me?” Jesus inquires of Peter for the third time in the gospel.

When Peter informed Jesus, “this is all I can give Lord – only myphileolove,” Jesus did not respond with, “then you’re not worthy to be My disciple.” Instead, Jesus said, “then you’re not worthy to be My disciple.” This is due to the fact that Jesus not only understood Peter’s limitations, but He also knew what He could provide to Peter in return.

  1. Jesus was announcing how Peter would die, namely, that he would eventually die on a crucifixion, as he had originally stated he would do for the sake of Jesus.
  2. Although it may be the extent of your willingness to go, I will not give up on you.
  3. As a result, God commands that we confront our limitations, but not to the point where we give up and declare, “This is as far as I can go.” As a result, He shows and allows us to confront our own limitations because He want to expand us.

Stretching Out And Reaching Higher

GOING THE EXTRA MILE AND GOING THE EXTRA MILE The place of your tent should be increased, and the curtains of your dwellings should be stretched out; do not skimp on lengthening your ropes or strengthening your posts. ERIsaiah 54:2 Rather, you will spread out on both sides, and your descendants will inherit the countries and populate the barren cities. 3For you will spread out on both sides, and your descendants will inherit the nations, and their successors will make the deserted cities populated.

This period in Israel’s history is known as the “Barren Period,” since she had no offspring despite the fact that she was married to Jehovah, who was also the father of her children.

As a result, they would have to expand their tents, as well as their ropes and tent-pegs, in order to accommodate the influx of people.

Because of the growth in the number of children, the “Singing and Shouting for Joy” would become more common.

It was planned that these children would arrive on the right hand and on the left, which would signify “on all sides.” Israel would be widening their tents if they were to preach the Word of God to the nations of the world.

The towns of these nations, which have been deserted until then and have had no godly people, will come to be inhabited under these conditions; they will be filled by loyal men.

However, if this expansion is to be sustained, the Church must be willing to be stretched beyond her normal boundaries.

We will not reach our full potential until we are forced to extend ourselves.

We will not be effective unless we are stretched to our limits.

No one enters this world with all of the tools they will need to be successful.

The majority of us are reluctant to stretch, reach, and extend.

It is possible for someone who is not ready to extend beyond their worries to become completely paralyzed by the unknown.

The first thing that comes to mind when hearing a message like this is that the speaker is preaching about acquiring more things or even starting a company of some sort.

If the bulk of the Saints continue to be ideal and unproductive, the work of the Kingdom of God will never achieve its goal and fulfill God’s commandment.

Salvation implies that you have been saved and have been given the opportunity to save someone else.

As a result, we go from the old life to the new one while staying imprisoned by our refusal to participate in the process that saved us.

Isaiah 54:1 is a verse from the Bible that says Sing, you barren women who have not given birth!

According to the Lord, the children of the desolate outnumber the offspring of the married woman by a wide margin.

1 Corinthians 12:7 However, the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each individual for the benefit of the entire community: The Spirit gives different kinds of tongues to different people.

The same Spirit also gives faith to another person and gifts of healing to another person.

11However, all of these things are accomplished by one and the same Spirit, who distributes to each individual according to His will.

You may have been futile in the past, but now is the time to celebrate.

Even if you have been severely disheartened and have given up hope, take heart.

You may be seen as an outcast, worthless, and unfit for anything, but take comfort in this.

Break out into song and dance.

You will spread out to the right and left as you go forward.

I’m about to do some stretching!

The state of being unable to create or have children regardless of how much desire or effort is put forth.

It is possible to break it.

Sing for happiness.

All of that might be history as of just this moment.

You’re going to make it.

You will yield fruit in due course.

Your outcome will be superior to that of others who achieved success quickly; you will be filled with enormous happiness.

Because the desolate has much more children than the woman who has a husband,” she explains.

Your offspring are more numerous.

Your mending will be more effective, and your results will be greater.

How many people are aware that having a child after being married is not considered good news, but it is considered excellent news when a barren woman has a child after sixty years of trying?

In accordance with God’s instructions, you will spread out both to the left and to the right.

You will spread out and be a blessing to others while also receiving blessings yourself.

Visualize yourself stretching out in the Gifts that God has given you to enjoy!

People who are perceived as outcasts include those who do not achieve, those who are poor, those who are uneducated, and those who come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

However, it makes no difference if you are a social outcast and have become unproductive.

You’re going to spread out.

He is the Redeemer of our souls.

Sing Him a song of praise.

Ignore what people think about you.

Do not hold back.

Trust God, Love Him, Obey Him, because He will not leave you.

You, whose life was once a laughing stock, be glad.

Your God the Lord God of Heaven has remembered you this day.

To give you an expected end.

God and you are not finished yet.

You may have done all and didn’t make it.

Shout for joy, you who have never known victory.

The Lord our God is your Redeemer.

If you have gotten comfortable and established in a routine, it’s time to check yourself.

You don’t have to live in a cave covered by jagged walls of cutting disappointments.

2 Cor 2:14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.

Paul’s words are based on a Roman victory parade given to a conquering general and the enemy prisoners were forced to march behind.

Paul, who had been “taken captive” by Christ, was now led in victory.

His defeats of our slavery to sin are our only true victories.

Paul compared this to the knowledge ofChrist, which like a fragrancewas poured out everywhereby the preaching of the gospel.

God has a great plan for your work.

“Lengthen your cord; strengthen your stakes, for you have spread out to the right and to the left.

It’s not wrong for us to ask God to bless us.

Now the thing that made it right was that Jabez wanted to be used to a greater capacity.

God wants to expand your influence for His purpose.

Here is a powerful principle in life; we live to give.

It’s not based on our ability.

It’s not your ability that counts the most; it’s your stretch-ability.

God uses elastic vessels that are able to change and grow with what He is doing.

But new wine must be put into new wineskins.

Old wineskins dry up and lose their suppleness, their ability to stretch, develop, adapt and expand in God’s capacity.

CLOSE: A man informed his doctor that he was no longer able to perform all of the household chores that he had previously performed.

“Please tell me what is wrong with me in clear English.” “Well, in plain English,” the doctor responded, “you’re simply being a slacker.” “All right, said the gentleman.” “I’d like to know what the medical word is so I can inform my wife.” We are creatures of habit, and we all desire the best that God has to offer; but, it is in our nature to resist being pushed beyond our comfort zones.

Don’t let your aversion to being stretched keep you from experiencing everything that God has in store for you.
