Land Use Permits
The usage of Ahtna lands necessitates the acquisition of a Land Use Permit, which is provided on an annual basis (from January through December). Predator Control
In accordance with this authorization, hunting of wolves, coyotes, brown and black bears is permitted on Ahtna lands. The yearly fee is $110 dollars. It is not permitted to hunt predators during the moose season. Aerial predator control that has been certified by the state is completely free. Permission to Purchase
Bison Hunting
The Ahtna Corporation will no longer provide land access licenses for hunting bison linked with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF G) Permit Nos. DI 450 and DI 454, nor will it issue predator control permits inside these respective bison hunt zones until further notice.
Natural Resources
Gravel is offered in cubic yard quantities. The cost of gravel in the Copper River Basin is $3.00 per cubic yard for pit run, according to the Copper River Basin Association. Cantwell’s gravel costs $3.55 per cubic yard for pit run, which is the most expensive type of gravel. Permits are valid from January 1st through December 31st of each year.

A day-use and overnight camping permit may also be obtained from our Natural Resource Technicians, who are in responsible of monitoring and patrolling certain tracts of Ahtna grounds. Day-use and overnight camping permits may also be obtained at chosen pay stations placed on Ahtna properties. Ahtna’s Permitted HuntingFishing Guides
Ahtna maintains the authority to deny any permission request if it believes that the proposal is inappropriate. Furthermore, should big prey/predator ratios reach sustainable levels on Ahtna lands, Ahtna has the right to terminate any predator control/hunting permits on Ahtna grounds at any point in time. Before awarding yearly predator control/hunting licences, it will be determined whether there is a need for them. Please keep in mind that Ahtna lands are privately owned and subject to the authority of the State of Alaska; as a result, all hunting and fishing activities must be done in compliance with Alaska Department of Fish and Game wildlife, hunting, and fishing rules.
Berries may not be picked in Ahtna lands due to cultural restrictions. During the moose hunting season, all Cantwell lands are closed. While engaging in such activity on Ahtna land, it is your obligation to ensure that you are in accordance with all applicable state laws and regulations.
Kluti-Kaah Served as Winter Home for the Ahtna

It has been thousands of years since Kluti-Kaah (Copper Center) served as an important winter village for the Ahtna, and there are still several turn-of-the-century cottages standing on the site, which is located across the river from today’s community. The Ahtna were strategically placed at the junction of the Klutina and Copper rivers, and they used the copper they discovered in the water to produce arrowheads and knives, as well as to sell for fur.
