From Benches To a Bed
For five people, there is enough space on two benches and a seat that runs the length of the interior of the rear hatch door. This is an excellent option for camping with friends or tailgating in the back of the truck. And when you’re ready to sleep, the benches can be transformed into a bed for two that takes up the whole rear of the trailer. Another option is to convert only one bench into a bed and leave the other bench as a seating area if you require some sleeping space but also need space to get ready in the morning.
Convertible Front U-Shaped Dinette
It is possible to comfortably lounge for up to 4 persons in the Basecamp 20 sitting area with plenty of room to spare. The tables is intended to be able to turn entirely around without colliding with anyone else who is seated at the dinette.
This design also provides for rapid admission and exit from the dining area from either side, eliminating the need for the entire group to stand up every time someone wants to reach for the refrigerator or the sink, among other benefits.
Load Up Your Gear and Go
When you have a spacious rear hatch door and a convertible table area that generates a lot of room, you can pack up your belongings and be out exploring more quickly than ever before.
All Cooking Essentials In a Smart Space
Things have remained simple and efficient in the Basecamp kitchen. Each of the kitchen appliances – a two-burner gas stove and a sink – is protected by a tempered glass cover that folds down for more workspace when not in use and to keep things clean when they are. Furthermore, a microwave, a refrigerator, and storage space for dishes, groceries, and spices are all provided. As an added bonus, you’ll be able to enjoy the panoramic view as you cook.
Enabling Adventure
The Basecamp is unlike any of our previous travel trailers, yet it is built with the same amount of care as the rest of our products. The finest materials, floor designs, and furnishings to incorporate have taken some effort, as has the development of novel techniques to make the lightweight RV-towing experience easy – and, most importantly, entertaining.

Manu-Facts:
A fantasy of Wally Byam’s inspired the founding of Airstream in 1931: to design a travel trailer that would move like a stream of air, be light enough to be pulled by an automobile, and provide first-class lodgings anyplace. In 1936, Wally Byam created the Clipper, the world’s first riveted aluminum semi-monocoque Airstream trailer. He revolutionized the face of travel forever, and he did it by creating a community of like-minded travelers known as Airstreamers. To this day, the whole Airstream community works together to keep Wally’s memory alive and well.
It’s also not the most straightforward.
That’s the sort of craftsmanship that allows Airstreams to last not just for years, but for generations, and it’s the kind of craftsmanship that makes us proud to put our name on them.
Airstream Basecamp: Road Test.
Norm Rosen contributed the text and photographs. We at RV Lifestyle Magazine have had our eye on the Airstream basecamp travel trailer for some years and have been waiting for the right occasion to tie one up to an SUV and head out on the RV highways to explore the world of camping. This chance presented itself recently when we visited the Basecamp at Can-Am RV Centre in Lambeth, Ontario, which is located just west of the city of London. Our test vehicle was towed by a BMW X1 small SUV, which was powered by a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that produced 228 horsepower and could be configured to drive either the front wheels or all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
- The Basecamp’s large 18-inch styled aluminum wheels and Goodyear® Assurance tires assist it in traversing uneven terrain, while the Torsion Axle suspension provides a smooth and comfortable ride.
- It was in 2007 when the first Airstream Basecamp model came off the manufacturing line, and the design has continued to be modified over the course of the past decade to the point where the 2018 versions represent a state-of-the-art rendition of the original concept.
- It has been so well accepted that Airstream has committed a new manufacturing plant only to the production of Basecamp trailer types.
- With its small dimensions, aerodynamic design, and ease of towing behind a broad range of vehicles, the Basecamp is an excellent choice for the family that appreciates the great outdoors and drives to their destination in a compact to full-size SUV or pickup truck.
The trailer seats five people and sleeps two adults; but, if you add an inflatable mattress and sleeping bag, you may fit two young children as well as adults.

Decor and Design
The Basecamp is furnished with interior décor elements that give the unit a futuristic feel, which is a nice touch. It goes without saying that the interior walls and ceiling are made entirely of Airstream aluminum. The upholstery and trim décor kits are available in three colors: River Rock, Red Rock, and Warm Stone. Earth-tone color schemes are complemented with 5/8″ WBP tongue-and-groove marine grade wood flooring in a warm wood tone that complements the earthy tones of the design.
The interior of our test unit was finished in Warm Stone. Antibacterial, stain and mildew resistant, and flame retardant, the SimtexTM Marine fabric used in the Basecamp ensures extended wear and easy maintenance for a variety of applications.
Airstream upgraded its most popular travel trailer RV to make it bigger and more luxurious for 2021 — see inside the $45,900 Basecamp

- Airstream has announced the debut of the Basecamp 20 and its off-road friendly counterpart, the 20X, for the 2021 model year, the company’s most popular travel trailers. The two builds are based on the original Basecamp 16 and Basecamp 16X
- However, they are not identical. Among the 2021 enhancements are larger trailer sizes that can accommodate more storage units, a new dinette that can be converted into a bed, and a fresh water tank for the kitchen sink and a black water tank for the bathroom. Prices for the Basecamp 20 begin at $45,900 and the Basecamp 20X begin at $48,900, respectively, and do not include optional extras such as a microwave, solar panels, and an air conditioning unit. More articles may be found on the Business Insider homepage.
This year, Airstream introduced the Basecamp 20, as well as the Basecamp 20X, which is an off-road version of the Basecamp 20. Both vehicles can sleep up to four people and are available in the 2021 model year. The Basecamp is one of Airstream’s eight travel trailers, which also include the Flying Cloud and International, which were both recently refurbished. Despite the wide range of towable small house alternatives available, the Airstream Basecamp trailer has grown to become one of the company’s most popular trailer models, according to the manufacturer.
In addition to a redesigned folding dinette and extra storage space, the new Basecamp now includes three separate water tanks: fresh, grey, and black water tanks.
Beyond the changes in base weight, the 20 and the 20X may be identified by the latter’s additional off-road-oriented improvements, which make it heavier, taller and $3,000 more expensive than the Basecamp 20 construction, which costs $45,900 in total.

REI Co-op Base Camp 6 Tent
- Dome architecture is intended to be extremely sturdy while also increasing the amount of space available for living within it. The wide-mouth door configuration provides equal access to the two entrances for all sleepers, eliminating the need to crawl over a tent mate to get in and out. Solid fabric is used for privacy and mesh is used for ventilation on large doors. Doors are tucked away in roof niches. Ventilation provided by two roof vents and a low side vent creates a “chimney effect,” which aids in the management of condensation. Campers may adjust the vents from the inside of the tent thanks to the zippered access. Using color labeling on the poles and sleeves makes setup a breeze. A large pole-supported vestibule and a smaller stake-out vestibule provide covered storage space at the front and back of the building, respectively. The abrasion and puncture resistance of the coated 150-denier polyester Oxford floor is excellent. Polyester rainfly with full coverage is resistant to stretching and ultraviolet radiation. Inside the tent, many pockets and hang hooks assist to keep gear and necessities organized and accessible. In the dark, reflective trimmings and embellishments make it easier to see your tent. Ample space is provided in the vestibule stake-out loops to accommodate skis or split boards. Contains a heavy-duty storage sack with an attached shoulder sling and stakes, guylines, and tighteners, as well as a pole-repair tube, a pole bag, and a stake bag
- The netting of the tent is solution-dyed, which reduces the amount of water and energy used during the production process. The REI Base Camp 6 Footprint (Item136060) is available as an optional accessory. unable to be used with any Base Camp 6 footprints from model years 2018 or before
