It’s in need of some TLC. When I opened the door to clean, the wench cable snapped. I had it about 90 percent open to clean it when it suddenly snapped. I can certify that the inside is in good condition. Some of the wood on the panels is rotting. It’s a good place to go hunting. There will be no leaks! All of the connections are functional. Rockwood tent trailers
Unread, May 26, 2000, 9:00 a.m.5/26/00, 9:00 a.m. Is there anyone out there who has an opinion on Rockwood tent trailers from 1989, or any other year for that matter? Rick

Would anyone like to share their thoughts on 1989 Rockwood tent trailers, or any other year for that matter? Rick Our previous unit, a 1993 Rockwood model 1740, served us well for five years until we upgraded to something larger. It was only an eight-foot box with an opening that extended to sixteen feet, but it was really sturdy, and we were able to transport it across the nation without incident.

I don’t think you’ll ever be sorry for purchasing a Rockwood; I know we haven’t! Unread, May 27, 2000, 9:00 a.m.5/27/00, 9:00 a.m. to I suppose I am of the polar opposite opinion when it comes to Rockwoods. I used to own a Rockwood 1940, 1995 model, which I detested to the worst. It was an issue from the very beginning of our camping vacation. Even after multiple trips to the dealer, the door would not fit properly. The holes in the wheelwheels were caused by the tires. The door continued slipping off of the roof support, and finally the entire internal roof had to be rebuilt to prevent further damage.
- When one of the beds was open or closed, it was always difficult to get into it.
- I acquired the product from Cobra Industries, which has since gone out of business, which was the manufacturer at the time of my purchase.
- Ironically, my wife’s boss recently purchased the same identical camper.
- My cousin bought a new Rockwood last year, and he loves it.
- There are several water issues.
- We looked at other brands and attempted to find a layout that was comparable, but Rockwood was the only one that had the layout we liked.
We had a Jayco from 1990 for five years and enjoyed it tremendously. I even took it on a 10,000-mile road trip without any issues. I recently acquired a 1998 Coleman Mesa, which I have not yet had the opportunity to use for camping purposes. Gene wishes you the best of luck.

5/28/00 to 9:00 a.m., May 28, 2000, 9:00 a.m. to A 1995 Rockwood 2280 freedom series is available for purchase. It may be extended to a length of 21 feet. The only issue we’ve experienced so far is a sagging rear axle. I’m not sure if the prior owner overloaded it or if it was simply underpowered.

Unread, May 29, 2000, 9:00 a.m.5/29/00, 9:00 a.m. to But, aside from those minor quibbles, you thought it was excellent, didn’t you? I used to own a Rockwood 1004XL from 1991. At 55 mph, the roof flew off and completely destroyed the riser assembly as the vehicle continued down the road. On the drive to the airport, the top and A/C actually snapped into a million pieces. I’m relieved that no one was following me at the time. The clamp latches appeared to be fashioned of bent tinfoil, which was a nice touch.
What a complete and utter piece of shite.
We’re hoping the top will remain on.

Unread, May 29, 2000, 9:00 a.m.5/29/00, 9:00 a.m. toRick, After a little over a year, we took our 1991 1280XL out for a couple of rides and enjoyed it. So far, my experiences have been as follows:I, too, gave up on the door. I believe that in order for it to operate, the trailer must be leveled extremely well from side to side as well as front to rear. The overall quality and finish of the inside is great. My opinion is that the cabinetry is among the greatest I’ve ever seen. It does, however, significantly increase the weight of the device.
- There was some particle board damage and discoloration, which I was able to repair and clean up.
- The full-size tires and wheels are a nice touch, and it tows effortlessly behind my 6-cylinder Jeep.
- Surge brakes are in good working order.
- Is it something I’d buy again?
- I must admit that there are some pretty wonderful units available, but the answer is YES.
- Greg Anderson has a 1991 Rockwood and a 1997 Jeep GCL.

Unread, May 29, 2000, 9:00 a.m.5/29/00, 9:00 a.m. Bob, you’re absolutely correct. Aside from those little flaws, the layout was pleasing to the eye overall. I have to admit, though, that the Rockwood was a fighter on par with any other trout I have ever caught.
The Rockwood battled valiantly till the last end. During the process of cleaning her out in preparation for taking her to the dealer to be traded in, she let out one final gasp, causing one of the drawer casters to collapse to the ground. I just took it up and placed it in the drawer with care. Gene

Unread, June 8, 2000, 9:00 a.m., 6/8/00 to 6/8/00 In 1994, we purchased a Rockwood model 2080, which is now in its fourth camping season with us. We have had no serious issues with it. Despite the fact that Rockwood trailers are manufactured in Indiana, they are not as ubiquitous at local campsites as Coleman and Jayco trailers. Our Rockwood pop-up trailer was made by Cobra Industries, which was the company that coined the term “Rockwood.” Forest River acquired them somewhere about 1995, if my memory serves me well.
We regret that Forest River does not provide a “owner’s club” or any other promotional tool to assist them sell themselves more effectively, as some other manufacturers have done.

Unread, 13th of June, 2000, 9:00 a.m.6/13/00 I agree with you. We have a 1995 Premier 1908 that we have used on multiple travels with no difficulties at all. We did not acquire the house with an air conditioner, and we are currently shopping for one. Due to the fact that it is already wired for a roof vent, we should have no trouble placing one on the roof. We also appreciate any inquiries you may have about Rockwoods. DeniseGreg Ei

Unread, The 21st of June, 2000 at 9:00 a.m.6/21/00 to I have a 1995 Signature Series 1260 that I purchased new. When fully extended, it measures more than 23′. It’s fantastic. Shower, toilet, furnace, hot water heater, outdoor shower, and three-way refrigerator are all included. I purchased it from a gentleman who was attempting to pull it with a four-cylinder engine.
