Wednesday Evening Worship at First Presbyterian Church on the 14th of May in the year 2003 Exodus 40:1-33 is a biblical passage that teaches about sacrifice. Setting up the Tent for the Meeting John Ligon Duncan III is a physician who practices in the state of California. I’d like to invite you to turn with me to Exodus 40 if you have your Bibles with you. After 93 sermons, we’ve reached the second-to-last study in this wonderful book that we’ve been studying for quite some time. Please bear with us as we finish up this great book.

Consider Exodus 40 with me for a moment.

Specifically, the tabernacle is designated as the focal point of Israel’s corporate worship in Exodus 40 because it is intended to fulfill that role.

The fact that the children of Israel will worship in the manner prescribed by the Lord is emphasized eight more times in this section.

Throughout this section, it is mentioned eight times, demonstrating the importance of worshiping God in the way that he has instructed us to do.

The reading of God’s holy word comes to an end at this point.

So, let us pray for one another.

At the conclusion of this book, as we come to the conclusion of this description on the construction and assembly of the tabernacle, we pray that You would open our eyes to see the wonderful truth contained within Your word, and that You would bring this truth to bear on the way that we worship even now.

Amen.

This type of elaborate ritual is not used in our worship.

The author of Hebrews explains why this is so: “We have a great High Priest who has passed through for us, and this has dramatically changed the way we worship today, particularly in terms of ceremonial observance.” Despite this, there are underlying principles in this passage and throughout the Book of Exodus that teach us a great deal about worship and even more about the Mediator — not only the old covenant mediator, Moses, but also the new covenant Mediator, Jesus — that we should consider.

As a result, I’d like to discuss two sections of this passage with you tonight: the first section, which contains verses 1-15, which contains instructions for setting up the tabernacle; and the second section, which contains verses 16-33, which actually describes how the tabernacle was set up.

  • God speaks directly to Moses once more about the construction of the tabernacle, this time in a verbal command.
  • Isn’t it interesting that even though the articles of the tabernacle are described in detail in Exodus 36-39, you’re never told where they’re supposed to be placed in the sanctuary?
  • All of the articles, as well as all of the tabernacle’s furnishings and ornaments, are placed precisely where he has instructed Moses to put them.
  • A holy purpose is to be assigned to them.
  • This section concludes with the instructions on how to install priests, which are contained within it.
  • The instructions for setting up the tabernacle are given to Moses verbally by God, including where to put the articles, how to consecrate the tabernacle articles, and how to consecrate the priests.
  • When you look at verse 2, Moses specifically calls attention to the date on which the tabernacle is to be set up: “You shall set up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting on the first day of first month,” he says.
  • New Year’s Day is the day that it is supposed to be put together.
  • The previous year, around this time, they were out looking for the Passover lambs that they would be slaughtering for the first time in order to celebrate the festival of Passover in its current form.

God’s creation is commemorated on the first day of the first month with the dedication of the entire tent of meeting; and, by tying together the tabernacle as a reflection of God’s new creation, the dedication constitutes an act of creation, forming God’s people and setting them apart for the Lord.

  1. With the redemption of God’s people, it becomes symbolic of the new creation and re-creation that God is bringing about.
  2. It is important to note how God uses the tabernacle to bring creation and redemption together.
  3. Because of this, the date of New Year’s Day for the tabernacle dedication and installation is extremely significant in terms of the symbolism associated with the tabernacle.
  4. Verse 2 ends with the phrase, “the tabernacle of the tent of meeting,” which refers to the tabernacle.
  5. It is referred to as the tabernacle, and it is referred to as the tent of meeting, and it is referred to as the tabernacle of the tent of meeting approximately five times.
  6. Another time it’s referred to as the tabernacle of the tent of meeting is in verse 6, which you can find by looking down.
  7. He calls this structure the tabernacle in the sense that it is the location where God manifests His presence; he calls it the tent of meeting in the sense that it serves as the location where He speaks to His representative.

So the tabernacle of the tent of meeting serves to remind us of both the reality that God speaks to us through His Mediator, as well as the reality that God in His mercy dwells with us — that He is near to us, that He shares His presence with us — through the presence of His Mediator.

Throughout verses 2-8, all of the you shall’s and all of the you must’s have to do with putting together the inner sanctum of the Holy of Holies as well as the surrounding tabernacle structure.

The account of the anointing, or consecrating, or setting apart of the tabernacle itself is found in verses 9-11, and the account of the anointing, or consecrating, or setting apart of the priests for service is found in verses 12-15.

Before they could enter the presence of God, they had to deal with their sin.

In order to serve the Lord faithfully, they needed to be ceremonially cleansed.

It served as a tangible reminder of God’s presence.

It was the curtain of the tabernacle that reminded people that entering the presence of Almighty God was not simple or casual; rather, it was restricted, and on the Day of Atonement, only the priests were permitted to enter the Holy of Holies to be with God.

It is clear from all of this that the value of God’s worship instructions in this context, as well as worshiping in line with God’s order, cannot be underestimated.

In terms of importance, it is the most vital work that someone can perform.

Exodus is an excellent example of how this viewpoint explains the enormous space allocated to liturgical directions throughout Scripture.

An prolonged conversation occurs in the middle of the Book of First Corinthians that lasts from approximately chapter ten all the way to about chapter fourteen (with a few pauses along the way), most of which is concerned with — what else?

Allow me to draw your attention to two or three items.

” This statement is repeated seven more times in the following verses: verse 19, verse 21, verse 23, verse 25, verse 27, verse 29 and verse 32.

There is an explicit reference to the divine appointment in each detail, which Moses regulated himself by as diligently and honestly as the workers did; and, thus, just as it was before, it is repeated here: ‘As the Lord ordered Moses,.’ The institution is referenced seven times in less than 14 lines, and Moses himself, as great a man as he was, would not pretend to deviate from it, neither to add to it nor to subtract from it, in the slightest punctilio, despite his enormous accomplishment.

  1. When people give orders, they must remember that their Master is also in heaven, and they must follow through with everything they are told.
  2. During our initial examination of the first part, we noted this issue.
  3. The year has passed since the Exodus; Israel has been in Mount Sinai for nine months, as previously stated.
  4. Only he has been identified in this document.
  5. If you were only reading Exodus 40:16-33, this would be a good choice.

In a way, it’s as if Moses is out there putting the bars in himself, putting the tablets in yourself, putting the curtains up himself, putting the surrounding section of courtyard up oneself, putting the laver up yourself, putting the furnishings in yourself.as if he is doing everything on his own.

In case you forgot, this whole affair began with the people of God rejecting him as their representative in a dispute, and now he finds himself in the position of representative, preparing the ground for them to experience communion with and the presence of God.

Join me in that direction.

According to Numbers 12:7, Moses was a loyal servant in the home of God, not just in the physical house/tabernacle of God but also “.faithful in the whole family of God.faithful in the entire people of God.” He was dependable, but he was dependable in his role as a serving member of the community.

Every item in the home had been left to him as an inheritance.

Moshe served as an administrator.

The author of Hebrews says that when you think about what Moses did in the midst of God’s household, when you think about what Moses did in the setting up of the tabernacle of God, it should lead you to do this: to think about Jesus, who was better than Moses and who Himself becomes the place where His people meet God.

  • When Jesus acts as our Mediator, we come face to face with God; we come to know God; we come to feel His presence; we come to share in communion with Him; and we come to be united and in communion with Him.
  • “Every day we may see something new in Christ,” Samuel Rutherford once stated.
  • Let us keep this in mind while we contemplate the image that God has provided for us in the tabernacle of Moses.
  • So, let us pray for one another.
  • We appreciate many aspects of it, and we express our gratitude to You for each one.
  • As sinners, it teaches us that we must be cleaned in order to enter Your presence; that we must enter Your presence via sacrifice in order to enter Your presence at all.
  • You have raised Him up above Moses and the tabernacle, and He has set up his tabernacle in our midst, and through Him we have been linked to You through faith.

Assist us in putting our faith in Him and in being certain that, if we are in a relationship with Him and with His people, we are aware of Your presence now and will continue to be aware of Your presence then and forevermore. The following questions are addressed to Jesus. Amen.

Second, if you look at verse 2, you’ll notice that Moses specifically calls attention to the date on which the tabernacle is to be built: “On the first day of the first month you shall construct the tabernacle of the tent of meeting.” So, when is it expected that the tabernacle will be constructed?

  • Now, that’s significant because it’s a year after the Exodus and, of course, a year after the Passover.
  • The tabernacle is currently being assembled.
  • By tying together the tabernacle as a reflection of God’s new creation, the dedication constitutes an act of creation, forming God’s people and setting them apart for the Lord.
  • It takes on the significance of the new creation and re-creation that God is bringing about through the redemption of His people.
  • Take note of how God uses the tabernacle to bring creation and redemption together in one place.
  • As a result, the date of New Year’s Day for the dedication and setting up of the tabernacle is extremely significant in terms of the symbolism associated with the tabernacle.
  • The tabernacle is referred to as “the tabernacle of the tent of meeting” at the end of verse 2.

It’s referred to as the tabernacle, and it’s referred to as the tent of meeting, and it’s referred to as the tabernacle of the tent of meeting approximately five times.

If you look down in verse 6, you’ll see that it’s mentioned yet again, this time as the tabernacle of the tent of meeting.

It is the tabernacle in the sense that it is the place where God manifests His presence; it is the tent of meeting in the sense that it is the place where He communicates with His mediator.

As a result, the tabernacle of the tent of meeting serves to remind us of both the reality that God speaks to us through His Mediator, as well as the reality that God, in His mercy, dwells with us — that He is close to us, that He shares His presence with us — in the midst of our lives.

  • It is important to remember that this entire occurrence began with the people of God rejecting him as a mediator, and now he is acting as a mediator and preparing a space where they would be able to experience communion with and the presence of God.

The demand for additional light at this stage of photosynthesis necessitates the use of a light source that is situated closer to the plants.

In order to generate blooms, the upper leaves of the canopy should be between 18 and 24 inches away from the light source.

In most cases, changing the height of the lights during blooming is not essential, depending on the lights and how you want your crop to grow.

How Far Should LED Grow Lights be from Seedlings?

Seedlings are sensitive during their early stages of development and require lower levels of light intensity. This indicates that you should avoid increasing the strength of the treatment too soon, since the seedlings will thrive under a much softer treatment. How Far Should Grow Lights Be From Plants (HID, LED, T5)

For those of you who have spent any amount of time researching the optimal height at which to hang your grow lights, you’ve probably come across a slew of wildly divergent answers. This is due to the fact that it is hard to provide a precise distance. What I can provide you is a solid beginning place for your research. Beginning at that point, you’ll progressively bring the lights closer to the canopy while keeping a tight eye on your plants. T5 Grow Light: Distance From Plants

Fluorescent lights do not generate nearly as much heat as other forms of lighting, allowing you to place them extremely close together without burning your hands. In reality, as long as they do not come into contact with the plants, you should be okay (with mature plants). You may use the same hand test that I discussed above in the MH and HPS sections to determine whether or not the light is too close to the subject. How High Above The Plants Do I Hang Ceramic Metal Halide Lights?

For her more high care plants, such as the aroids, which require a lot of light to flourish correctly, Andrea uses them for four hours a day, from 4pm to 8pm, from 4pm to 8pm. I like that the light is mostly blue with a bit of pink, and that it is not too harsh on the eyes.
