The inside of a marquee tent has the peaks but no poles, but the outside does not. And, as if picking out the size wasn’t difficult enough, you’ll also need to choose what kind of tent you want.

Type Description
Pole Secured with stakes – can’t be used on concrete or asphalt. Poles create peaks and dips which makes it look very elegant
Frame Free standing so can be set up on any surface. There are no poles inside so you don’t have to worry about planning or decorating around those
Marquee Hybrid of the pole and frame tent. They give you the elegant peaks of the pole tent but are free standing like the frame tent
Frame Structure Has wider openings and taller ceilings than the standard frame tent. Can support more weight than other types of tents, and has tighter fitting sections and walls, making it the best option for heating and air-conditioning

Inside of the tent, there are no poles because it is a marquee tent. Not only that, but you also need to decide on the sort of tent you want, if determining the size wasn’t difficult enough.

Customer Reviews

Rather of focusing on finding the answers you want, are you wasting time jumping around from one rental company to another? If you’re anything like me, you must despise the fact that you can’t obtain your answers as quickly as you’d want. For your convenience, we have made it simple to find out how many people may be accommodated beneath your tent hire. We’ll provide you with the basic answers below, but we encourage you to view our fast 30 second video to have a better image of what your event will look like with each style table under the tent and to ask any questions you may have.

Why It Isn’t A Simple Answer

One of the reasons tent sizing issues are so tough to answer is that there are so many various activities that you may participate in beneath a tent. For example, will there be a dancing floor or will there be a band? Is the tent being used for a cocktail hour alone, or will there be actual chairs available? For the sake of keeping things as simple as possible, the ideal starting point is to just provide you with an estimate of how many people can fit under the tent based on seating at round tables as opposed to rectangle tables, which is what we’re going to do.

Round tables are considered to be more formal, and the majority of people prefer them.

Tent with 20 × 20 poles

20 x 20 Tent With Round Tables

A 20 × 20 tent has enough space to accommodate up to 32 people comfortably. There are four tables that will fit under this size tent if you use 60-inch round tables. Each table easily accommodates 8 people, which is how we ended up with a total of 32 people. However, this does imply that you will have little to no spare space for things like a gift table, dessert table, or other such items.

Those are frequently the kinds of things that some of our clients overlook. When it comes to throwing a tented event, having too much space is undoubtedly preferable to having too little. Please see the video at the top of this page for a better understanding of what this might look like.

  • The most prevalent type of formal event is a modest formal gathering. When compared to a rectangle table, it is easier to interact at a round table
  • Circular tables may accommodate fewer guests than rectangular tables. Tables can accommodate up to eight people. Cost-effectiveness is increased. For a 20 × 20 tent, the majority of clients prefer rectangle tables.

20 x 20 Tent With Rectangle Tables

A 20 × 20 tent has enough space to accommodate up to 48 people comfortably. 6 tables may be accommodated under this size tent if the tables are 8 feet long and rectangular in shape. Each table comfortably accommodates 8 people, which is how we got up with a total of 48 people. This is particularly typical for celebrations such as graduations and birthdays.

  • Most commonly used for small gatherings
  • Can accommodate two more tables than circular tables
  • Can accommodate more people under the same size tent
  • Can accommodate eight guests per table. Crab feasts are a specialty. Option that is more popular

What Size Wall Tent Should I Get? Size Comparison & Layout Diagrams

The size of the wall tent you require is determined by a number of fundamental considerations.

  1. The number of individuals that will be sleeping in the tent
  2. Are you sleeping on the floor or are you sleeping on cots and mattresses? Is the majority of the population composed of adults or children? Is the tent solely going to be used for sleeping, or do you need a place to socialize or cook? Is the tent going to be for your family, a group of scouts or a group of unrelated people

In reading about wall tents before purchasing our first, we learned that we should plan on 20 square feet (sq ft) per person for sleeping and 30 square feet (sq ft) per person if we wanted extra room for cooking or other activities. The first tent we purchased (12 X 14) is 168 sq ft, which means that if we use 20 – 30 sq ft each person, the tent can accommodate 5 – 8 people. Table 1 illustrates the number of persons that can be accommodated in various-sized tents based on the 30 and 20 sq ft calculating methods.

Tent Total Number Number
Size Square Tent Sleeps Tent Sleeps
(Feet) (Feet) @30 sq ft @20 sq ft
8×10 80 2 4
10×12 120 4 6
12×14 168 5 8
13×13 169 5 8
12×16 192 6 9
13×16 208 6 10
14×16 224 7 11
13×20 260 8 13
16×20 320 10 16

Due to the fact that our newest wall tent comes from Elk Mountain Tents, Tables 1 and 2 have been updated to reflect the 13 foot wide tents that are currently available from Elk Mountain Tents, as well. More floor plan diagrams have also been created to demonstrate additional 13-foot-wide tents, which have been published to the website. In the case of persons sleeping on the ground, particularly if some of them are youngsters, the higher values based on 20 sq ft per person seem fair. However, stuffing teens like cord wood could be OK, but paying clients will be less than pleased with your efforts.

If the tent is intended for use as a camp for children or even as an emergency shelter, bunk beds two or three stories high might be constructed to accommodate a greater number of people.

Additionally, bunk cots are provided. Although this may not be the most pleasant setting, everyone would be safe and dry inside, away from the rain and cold.

Cots add Comfort, but Require More Space

Despite the fact that cots are more comfortable than sleeping on the ground, especially with decent padding, cots take up more room. In general, average-sized cots are 72 – 75 inches long and around 25 inches broad, which is 12.5 – 13 square feet, whereas XL (and larger)-sized cots are approximately 80 – 85 inches long and 31 to 40 inches wide, which is 17.2 – 23.6 square feet, respectively. As a result, a 12 by 14 foot tent may accommodate up to 8 regular-sized cots or 6 large-sized cots comfortably.

In terms of square footage, it may be technically conceivable to put a specific number of cots into a certain amount of space in different-sized tents, but this may not be feasible in practice.

Even in that case, some cots would have to be placed quite next to each other, leaving very little room between the cots.

Wood Stove Requires 36 – 40 square feet

The majority of individuals who purchase wall tents do so with the aim of camping during the winter months. The option to heat the wall with a wood or pellet burner is a big part of the attractiveness of the design. There will be less space for cots in the tent if there is a hot stove in the tent, as is obvious. Wood stoves are available in a variety of sizes. The use of small stoves is adequate for heating small tents, whilst bigger stoves are required for heating larger tents. It is advised that some of the larger (1620) tents have two burners because of their size.

  • Based on where the smoke stack is located in the tent’s front corner and the stove being buffered by three feet out into the tent space, a mid-sized stove takes up 36 square feet of space, while bigger stoves take up around 38 square feet, according to the manufacturer.
  • Several months before purchasing our first tent, I developed floor designs to determine how many cots and tables could be comfortably accommodated in various tent sizes.
  • These floor drawings assisted us in determining the appropriate size tent for our needs.
  • In the end, I believe we found the most appropriate size tent for the two of us.

It includes information on different tent sizes, the space required for the stove and the safety area around a hot stove, the maximum number of cots I could fit into the area and the area, the number of cots I recommend be used in that space, and the actual square footage that the recommended number of cots consumes in that space.

Table 2 shows the size of the tent, the space available for the stove, the maximum number of cots, the recommended number of cots, and the space required for each recommended number of cots

Wall Tent Floor Plans and Headroom Diagrams

All of the diagrams (Figures 1-15) are sized the same way, with one foot equaling three squares on the grid (4 inches per square). All of the human silhouettes stand at a height of 6 feet. All of the cots and tables are 32 inches wide by 76 inches in length overall. The height of the cots is 20 inches, while the height of the tables is 28 inches. The red spots on the map depict the safety buffer surrounding the wood stove, which is black in colour. In order to provide a point of reference, the gray portions indicate huge cots or tables, while the black patches on top of the gray cots represent average-sized cots.

12 x 14 Wall Tent Scale Diagram

Figure 1 shows the floor design for a 12 x 14-foot wall tent. When there are only two of us in a 12 × 14-foot tent, we have plenty of space for everything, including the table and stove. In terms of sleeping arrangements, there is enough capacity for three cots and four cots, however the floor area is dramatically limited (Figure 1). Figure 2 depicts a scale design of a tent with a 12 foot width and an 8 foot height from the side, allowing you to see how much headroom there is. Headroom in a wall tent 12 feet wide and 8 feet high, seen in scale drawing in Figure 2.

13 x 13 Wall Tent Scale Diagram

A 13 X 13 foot tent is really one square foot larger than a 12 X 14 foot tent, but I believe it offers more alternatives for floor layout due to its longer length. For example, tiny cots can be arranged end to end in a 13-foot room, but they will not fit in a 12-foot space. The 13-foot space can also accommodate a folding table that may be used in conjunction with a cot; however, the table will not fit in the 12-foot space. Figure 4. An alternate floor layout for a 13 x 13 ft Wall Tent that is only available from Elk Mountain Tents is shown in Figure 4.

If you don’t use the stove, you can put six cots in this tent, but four cots will fit quite nicely, and there will still be enough of place for your belongings.

8 x 10 Wall Tent Scale Diagram

Diagram of an 8 x 10 foot wall tent (see Figure 5). A wall tent measuring 8 by 10 feet is quite tiny (Figures 56). If you’re using a wood stove, I don’t see how you could fit more than two beds in the tent, and only one of those cots could be large enough to stay out of the three-foot buffer that’s advised around the wood stove in this situation. When the stove is not in use, there will be enough space for another cot, but there will not be enough space for two persons to pass past each other (Figure 6).

10 x 12 Wall Tent Scale Diagram

Diagram of a 10×12-foot wall tent (see Figure 7 below). Similarly, the 10 x 12 Wall Tent (Figures 78) is a modest structure, but it can accommodate two big cots without encroaching on the safety buffer surrounding the stove. If the wood burner is not used, it is possible to put as many as 6 tiny cots into the tent if the space is limited.

When not utilizing a stove, the 10 foot wide tent is at the very least spacious enough for two people to walk through with a cot or tables on either side (Figure 8). Figure 8: Scale drawing of headroom in a wall tent that is 10 feet wide and 8 feet high (scale drawing).

12 x 16 Wall Tent Scale Diagram

Diagram of a 10×12-foot wall tent (see Figure 7) Similarly, the 10 x 12 Wall Tent (Figures 78) is a modest structure, but it can accommodate two big cots without encroaching on the safety buffer surrounding the campfire. If the wood stove is not used, it is possible to put as many as six tiny cots into the tent if necessary. When not utilizing a stove, the 10 foot wide tent is at the very least spacious enough for two people to pass through with a cot or table on either side (Figure 8). 13 x 16 Wall Tent Scale Diagram

One foot additional width may not seem like much, but when employing a wood fire, a 13 X 16 Wall Tent will comfortably accommodate five big cots (Figure 10), with none of the large cots intruding on the buffer space surrounding the stove, as opposed to the 12 X 16 ft tent in Figure 9. With only four cots, or with some cots that are normal in size, the tent would have plenty of space to accommodate everyone.

14 x 16 Wall Tent Scale Diagram

Even with the wood stove, a 14 by 16 wall tent is plenty to accommodate the five huge cots (Figure 11). If required, seven cots can be accommodated in the tent with the stove, and eight cots (not all of which are huge) may be accommodated in the tent without the stove. However, the additional 16 square feet obtained over the 13 X 16 tent does not translate into significantly more useable space, especially if all of the cots are not required to be huge in the first place. Fig. 11: Floor Plan for a 14 x 16-foot Wall Tent Figure 12 illustrates that the 14 × 16 tent has adequate width to accommodate three rows of beds or tables if necessary.

16 x 20 Wall Tent Scale Diagram

In the case of a wood stove, a 16×20 wall tent will comfortably accommodate eight cots (Figure 13). The tent has the capacity to accommodate as many as nine or 10 cots if necessary, but it will be far more pleasant if the number of cots is kept to eight or fewer. It is possible to accommodate up to twelve beds into a 1620 tent while the wood stove is not being used. Figure 13: Floor plan for a 16×20-foot wall tent with a canopy. Figure 14 illustrates that the 16-foot-wide tent is large enough to accommodate three rows of beds or tables with ease.

Figure 14.

16 x 20 Wall Tent Scale Diagram with Two Stove

A 1620 Wall Tent with two stoves sacrifices some cot space in order to acquire the additional heat, but the tent is large enough to accommodate up to seven cots comfortably. If required, it may be able to accommodate as many as ten cots. Figure 15 depicts the amount of headroom and breadth available in the 16-foot-wide tent. Plan for a 16×20-foot wall tent with two wood stoves (see Figure 15). If you are contemplating purchasing a wall tent, we hope that these diagrams will assist you in determining the appropriate size tent for your needs.

We made the decision to go with the bigger tent and have never looked back.

As a result, we may now invite friends and family while maintaining our right to privacy at the same time.

10×20 Tent Frame Options

Is the 10×20 tent part of a certain frame series? Tent frames for our 10×20 tents are available in two different styles: basic and deluxe. The basic model, which is built of steel, is the most cost-effective of the two. The legs may be changed to five various heights, with the highest setting reaching 11ft. The basic tent frame is 101 pounds in weight. This frame is also available in five other heights that may be modified up to 11 feet tall. The most significant change is that the deluxe model is constructed of aluminum, which does not corrode when exposed to the elements.

  1. In addition to having these additional features, the deluxe frame is also more costly than the standard 10 x 20 pop up tent frame.
  2. The distinction is in which elements of the website may be customized using your design.
  3. When choosing the logo print option, the whole 10×20 canopy may be printed in a variety of various colors, however an actual picture or logo can only be printed on a specific portion of the canopy.
  4. If the region on the template has stripes on it, it signifies that it cannot be printed onto.
  5. They are available in a variety of colors, including red, blue, and green.
  6. When it comes to the 10×20 tent frames and canopies, what kind of materials are available?
  7. Even though the steel frame is more cheap than the aluminum frame, the aluminum frame is built to survive for much longer.

Tent canopies with full-color printing and logo printing are available in water-resistant and flame-retardant polyester (300D polyester).

Even though the stock color canopies are likewise constructed of polyester, they have a polyurethane covering on the outside.

300D, on the other hand, is significantly lighter than 450D.

Both the basic and deluxe tent frames may be extended to a maximum height of 11ft.

When fully assembled, the shortest size is 10 feet.

What method is used to print the canopy?

Rather than having the image appear as if it was placed on top of the fabric, we use a modern dye sublimation process that produces more sharp, vivid colors, scratch-resistant graphics, and infuses the colors into the material rather than having the image appear as if it was placed on top of the fabric.

  1. What additional attachments are available for my 10×20 pop up canopy?
  2. These accessories may be added to your purchase while designing your 10×20 tent, or they can be found in the tent hardware or add-ons sections of our website.
  3. The items in these tabs are dynamic, and they will display the products that are most suited for your 10×20 tent layout based on your selection.
  4. If you intend to put up your 10×20 pop up tent outside, the pegs and weights are critical pieces of hardware.
  5. Finally, the “Accessories” page contains rain gutters and awnings that are suitable for use with your 10×20 tent while it is being used outside.
  6. What is the best way to put up a 10×20 pop up tent?
  7. First and foremost, the aluminum or steel structure is easily expandable, and it is recommended that 2-4 persons be used to build it up.

Finally, tent pegs or weights are used to secure the tent structure to the ground, which provides further support. You can get detailed instructions on how to assemble our 10×20 tent by watching the video below.

Setup Video

Is the 10×20 tent part of a certain frame series? Tent frames for our 10×20 tents are available in two different styles: basic or deluxe. Because it’s less expensive, the basic is constructed entirely of steel. Adjustable legs allow for a range of heights from 5 feet to 11 feet. It takes 101lbs to assemble the basic tent frame. It is also available in five different heights that can be changed up to 11 feet. Essentially, the only difference is that the deluxe model is constructed of aluminum, which does not rust when exposed to the elements.

  1. In addition to having these extra features, the deluxe frame is also more costly than the standard 10 x 20 pop up tent frame.
  2. The distinction is in which areas of the website may be customized with your logo.
  3. Unlike a real picture or logo that may cover the whole 10×20 canopy, the logo print option can have the entire 10×20 canopy printed in a broad range of various colors.
  4. This signifies that the section with stripes on the template is not suitable for printing.
  5. Their color is not specified, although it can be any of the colors listed above, including red, blue, and green.
  6. For the 10×20 tent frames and canopies, what materials are available?
  7. Even though the steel frame is less expensive than the aluminum frame, the aluminum frame is more durable.

In water-resistant and flame-retardant polyester, tent canopies may be customized with full-color or brand prints (300D polyester).

Polyurethane coating is applied to the standard color canopies, which are likewise constructed of polyester.

In comparison to 450D, 300D is significantly lighter.

All of the tent frames, including the basic and deluxe models, may be extended to 11 feet in height.

When fully assembled, the shortest size is 10ft.

The canopy’s printing process is described in detail below.

Rather than having the image appear as if it has been placed on top of the fabric, we use a modern dye sublimation process that produces more sharp, vibrant colors, scratch-resistant graphics, and infuses the colors into the material rather than appearing as if it has been placed on top of the fabric.

In addition to my 10×20 pop-up canopy, what other accessories are available?

Adding these accessories to your order when designing your 10×20 tent or by browsing the tent hardware or add-ons categories are also options.

The items in these tabs are dynamic, and they will display the products that are most suited for your 10×20 tent setup as you click on them.

If you plan on erecting your 10×20 pop up tent outside, the pegs and weights are essential pieces of equipment.

Rain gutters and awnings that are compatible with your 10×20 tent for outdoor usage are available under the “Accessories” category.

What is the best way to set up a 10×20 pop-up shelter?

It is recommended to use 2-4 persons to put up the aluminum or steel frame, which is easy to do because of its expandability.

Finally, tent pegs or weights are used to secure the tent structure to the ground in order to provide additional support. You can find detailed instructions on how to assemble our 10×20 tent in the video below.
