Amazon.com: Customer reviews: Coleman Company Instant Dome 6 Person Tent, Yellow/Tan, 7×8-Feet

3.0 stars out of 5 for this product Instant dome not working properly? If your quick dome tent is shredded, this could be the solution to your problem. On July 27, 2015, a review was conducted in the United States. When my tent came crashing down in a tangle of tangled poles, I assumed it was doomed, but what actually occurred was that the two double hubs had flipped upside down under the stress in some way, as many other reviews have said. There is no way to fix this, and the tent ends up looking like a twisted mass of poles that are crisscrossed all over the place.

  1. It’s just a matter of flipping the twin hubs back to the correct side.
  2. Begin by leaving all of the poles unextended, and then work your way around the perimeter, lifting the poles above the double hub to “uncross” them one at a time.
  3. Essentially, the tent’s skeleton is turned inside out from the outside in this process.
  4. I’ve attached a photo of what the double hub and poles SHOULD look like when they’re installed correctly.
  5. It can be raised and lowered fast, and it was able to withstand strong winds and severe rains without issue.

I deducted a couple of stars since the design of the construction allows it to flip itself inside out when it is flipped. When it comes to instructions, Coleman should at the very least offer information on how to resolve the problem if it occurs.

Best Instant Tents 2020

Putting together a campground for your family is one of the most difficult things you can do. I can tell you from personal experience that you are always looking at the clock, anticipating the moment when you will finally be able to relax and take in the splendor of the great outdoors. However, things don’t always turn out the way you want them to. As we did this the last time, the kids were making almost no progress on their tent when the rain clouds began to approach over the horizon. We did everything we could to prepare, yet the nighttime downpour still caught us off guard.

Could it be that all of the hype around quick tents and how they were going to revolutionize camping had some basis in reality?

So as soon as we returned home, I made it my life’s mission to search down the best instant tent on the market, which I duly accomplished. The entire world of quick family tents was like finding almond or soy milk for the first time, which was a complete surprise to me.

Lets Explore the Fastest Instant Tents of 2022

Putting together a campground for your family might be really challenging. Having been there myself, I can attest that you are always looking at the clock, anticipating the moment when you may finally relax and take in the splendor of nature. However, things may not always turn out the way you want them to. In fact, the last time we did this, the kids were making almost no progress building their tent as the rain clouds began to gather on the horizon. But the nighttime downpour nevertheless caught us off guard despite our best efforts.

Perhaps there was some merit to all of the discussion about quick tents becoming all the rage and simplifying the concept of camping experience.

The whole world of quick family tents was like finding almond or soy milk for the first time, which was a complete surprise to me.

What To Look For When Buying Large Instant Tent?

On the exterior, instant tents appear to be the regular tent’s more sophisticated relative, but once they are set up, they will far exceed your expectations in terms of performance. Take, for example, my incredulity; there was no way in my opinion that a lighter, less difficult, and less expensive tent could be erected in less time while being just as durable as a normal tent. If you have arrived to this page because you have fallen down the rabbit hole that is the world of rapid tents, then please accept my greetings.

1. Size

In order to be comfortable, you’ll need a tent that is large enough to accommodate you, your bed, and your belongings. However, the tent’s attachments and folds should not make it too heavy to transport, since this might make it difficult to set up and take down. Look for a model with a small footprint.

2. Portability

A good quick tent should be lightweight and portable. Look for a carrying case or some solid handles to use as a carrying option.

3. Ease of use

Consider how long it takes you to erect a tent from the ground. Some tents may be put together in a matter of minutes. Instant tents, on the other hand, have been documented to be set up in as little as a few seconds. The easier the tent is to put up, the faster you will be able to put it together.

4. Storage

Consider how long it takes you to erect a tent from the ground up. In certain cases, tents may be assembled in minutes. Although it has been reported that quick tents may be assembled in seconds, this is not always the case. The tent’s assembly will go more smoothly and quickly if it is pre-assembled before you begin.

5. Price

The most expensive tents are not necessarily the best.

If you are desperate to discover the most affordable quick tent on the market, you are also likely to find the poorest and most unreliable product available on the market. Find a tent that provides the greatest value for your money should be your first goal in this process.

6. Airflow

Look for a high level of ventilation. At night, you must keep the doors of your tent closed to ensure a comfortable sleep. A good instant tent, even when closed, should include extra ventilation that allows cold or hot air to pass through it.

7. Door

The number of doors you require in a tent will be determined by the size of the tent and the number of people who will be using it. People entering and exiting a huge tent, for example, require as many entrances as feasible in order to avoid interrupting everyone else present in the tent throughout the process.

What Are the Advantages of Instant Tents?

  • You can set them up and take them down in minutes, if not seconds
  • They are lightweight and portable. They are so simple to operate that even complete beginners may learn how to use them with minimal effort. Instant tents are lightweight and small, making them convenient to transport.

TheColeman Evanstonis a lovely 6-person tent with a devoted fanbase that is available for purchase. However, that is about where the accolades end for the time being. The quality of the material, the coverage provided by the rainfly, and the overall design of this tent all fall short of expectations. With an incredibly difficult setup and a cheap bag, the price of this tent is about the only thing that makes it a good deal more appealing than the competition. As one of the most affordable tents in our range for this size tent, the old saying “you get what you pay for” holds true here: you get what you pay for.

Our Analysis and Test Results

TheColeman Evanstonhas features that, with the exception of a few extremely particular cases, fail terribly. The fully netted and sealed floor functions admirably on hot days and during bug-filled nights, but it falls short in all other situations.

Performance Comparison

This tent appears to be in excellent condition in practically every photograph, but don’t be misled; appearances are about all that this tent has going for it. Space and Comfort

With 90 sq st of internal area and an extra 40 sq ft of vestibule space, you’ll have plenty of space to spread out in this tent. The main tent will comfortably accommodate a full and a twin air mattress, while the vestibule will comfortably accommodate two chairs, a table, and additional items. Both regions, on the other hand, are short, with a maximum height of 5′ 8″ — and that is only at the very top dead center. Most campers are forced to duck and change while sitting down in the vestibule since it is a bit shorter than that at 5′ 4″.

  • In addition, getting into and out of theEvanstonis a somewhat challenging experience because the doors only open halfway.
  • In addition, there is a really unusual glass over the door.
  • They put windows on each side to compensate.
  • The tent has excellent ventilation, with the majority of the back and around half of the top being made entirely of mesh.

Weather Resistance

TheEvanstonis a solid dome shape with a low profile and highly slanted sides that has a relatively low profile. In addition, it comes pre-installed with guylines and a full set of completely appropriate stakes, which allowed it to pass our wind test with flying colors. It is particularly well ventilated, whether or not the rainfly is present, due to the large amount of open mesh and customizable window coverings throughout. In terms of rain, on the other hand, this tent likes to gather the moisture rather than shedding it.

Not a really attractive design feature, to say the least.

Ease of Use

Our crew took 14 minutes and 20 seconds to fully setup the tent, which was far longer than the bulk of our other tents and resulted in significantly greater irritation among the group. First and foremost, while inserting the inexpensive fiberglass poles into the sleeves, they become caught. In addition, the poles are equipped with pins rather than grommets, as is the case with all of the other tents in our inventory. Now that the poles are in place, it’s time to get started with the fly. However, you will not be able to put the fly on the tent until you have staked the entire structure.

  • In addition, the rainfly must be velcroed to the vestibule area in four different spots.
  • While struggling to get the rainfly up for the second failed try on the Coleman Evanston, we could see our faces becoming red with irritation and disappointment.
  • Photograph courtesy of Rob Gaedtke As previously stated, the door of theEvanston only opens half-way when opened.
  • When you combine that with only two pockets and a weight of 20.9 lbs, you get a tent that ranks extremely poorly in the field of convenience of use.
  • An unusual and difficult method for Colman to save money on production costs, to say the least.

Durability

Again, theEvanston falls short of expectations when it comes to long-term durability. Fabricated from fiberglass poles, low-cost mesh, and tarp-like flooring, the structure is held together by midgrade zippers and inverted seams (instead of the superior seam-seal). In addition, the bag is of low quality, and it will almost certainly require ducktape after the first or second season. The poles and guylines appear to be suitable for the tent, and the rainfly, though difficult to put up, is made of polyester taffeta 75D, which is a durable material.

Family Friendliness

The size of this tent, as well as the mesh-covered vestibule, make it an excellent choice for a family. Four persons and their four-legged companions will be well accommodated, with some spare space remaining. Not only does this tent just have two pockets, but it also doesn’t have a vestibule that is adequately sheltered from the weather, which makes storage difficult. A puddle of soaked clothing and equipment does not make for happy campers. As an example, if your family is stranded in the tent during a storm, there is no way to cook unless you do so entirely inside the tent, which is never a smart idea under these circumstances.

We’ll never know why Colman thought this was a smart design idea in the first place.

Value

While the price of this tent is inexpensive, the quality and general design of the tent are also substandard. If you are seeking for a summer weather tent in a bug-infested location, this can be an excellent option for you. However, the benefit is just not there for the majority of regular camping situations.

Conclusion

The Coleman Evanston Screened 6 is a low-cost tent with a few of appealing features, and its cheap price surely attracts attention. However, it fell short in every area and was ranked among the lowest performers throughout our complete roster. This is not the tent we would recommend if you are searching for a low-cost 6-person tent. We apologize for any inconvenience. Rob Gaedtke is a writer and educator.
