Try this simple no-sew bunk bed tent method the next time your child wants to make a fort out of their bed and wants to use all of your linens and blankets to do it. After a few fruitless efforts, I came up with an astonishingly easy approach that worked perfectly.

Bunk Bed Tent Solution

In my attempt to resolve this conundrum, I sacrificed a couple of hours and a perfectly nice bed sheet before realizing that all I would want is the following information:

• A twin-size flat sheet
• 4-ply Jute string
• Command “Fridge” Clips
• And a pair of scissors.

I purchased two sets of the fridge clips from my local Hobby Lobby, also known as “My Happy Place,” and arranged them upside down around the upper bed frame at around 12-inch intervals. After that, I simply cut the jute thread to a length that was little longer than the length of the bed and put a knot in either end of the string. I folded the bed sheet in half lengthwise and threaded the string through the fold in the bed sheet fold. Then I used my fingers to carefully insert the sheet and thread inside the clip.

1. However, after you insert the thread into the fold, it fills up the little loop at the top of the clip, making it much more difficult to remove.
2. You can probably use whatever type of string that you happen to have on hand, as long as it’s tiny enough to fit in that loop but not too little to draw through it with your fingers.
3. If it’s more convenient, you could definitely use a pillowcase instead.
4. I can simply remove the covering if she outgrows her bunk bed tent when that time comes.

I also moved her lamp cord to a more convenient location, simply to make things a little more orderly. Isn’t it lovely with the light on inside from her candle? If I stay at home and read a nice book while she’s in school, I’m confident that she won’t mind! I’m going to pretend to be Goldilocks.

How to Make a Bunk Bed Tent

Fit the curtain rail above the bed in accordance with the instructions by drilling holes in the rail to allow the mounting screws. The installation of two curtain rails side by side at a center point on the ceiling above the bunk bed will be necessary if the bunk bed is open on both sides. Make certain that the curtain rings are not in conflict with one another.

Step 4 – Hang Curtain Panels

Hang the panels so that one drapes from each curtain rail and the other panels fall on either side of the bed, as seen in the photo. The bed will only need to be aligned with a wall on one side, therefore this will only need to be done once. Allow the curtain to fall and hang it in the desired location. Remove the Velcro from the hanging panels at the foot of the bed and slip the strips of Velcro under them until they are secure. Remove the backing from one side of the Velcro strip, exposing the adhesive side, and glue it to the bottom rung of the top bunk while keeping both sides of the Velcro strip together.

Stitching the Velcro to the curtain will help to further secure it.

Materials:

• 2 yards of 44/45 twill cloth “fabric for the door and window flaps, as well as the tabs 5 yards in 44/45 yard range “for the remainder of the front wall and end walls, fabric 2-and-a-half yards 44/45 “a fabric for the reverse

The First Section is titled “The Front.” The Front Entrance I started with the most critical aspect of the project: the front door! I made the door out of bright orange flannel, which I trimmed to be 20 inches wide. I ironed and stitched 5/8″ thin hems on both sides of the dress. When determining the length, I made a 2″ allowance for fabric that would stretch above the top of the bottom mattress, and I stitched a casing for a 3/8″dowel to fit through on the bottom. I also made sure there was enough fabric to fold over the guard rail and attach it with velcro at the top.

• I used the orange cloth to cut and sew four tabs together.
• As soon as the dowel is placed into the bottom of the door, it allows the “door” to be rolled up and held in place by the velcro tabs.
• The Front Wall is the first wall you see as you walk in.
• Because I did not have enough of one color, I stitched a 9 instead “the top of each panel with a 45-inch strip, for a total length of 45 inches When the bunkbed was finished, this seam was concealed by the fact that it folded to the rear over the wood frame of the bed.
• After that, I stitched two chambray panels together to form a central seam.
• I stitched a thin hem (5/8″) down both sides and at the bottom of the dress to finish it off.
• The following step was a bit difficult – cutting around the ladder and three metal slats in the ceiling.

Several measurements, tucking, and measuring again were necessary, as was cautious cutting!

Grandkids, you did a fantastic job!

Along the edge, I made a thin 1/2″ hem with my sewing machine.

I used the same procedure to cut around the three metal slats as I did with the wooden slats.

Afterwards, I stitched velcro to the top edge of each panel.

The View Through the Window In order to create a template for the front window opening, I cut a piece of scrapbook paper 12″ × 12″ in size.

Drawing around the pattern, I then measured 3/4″ within the 12″ square with a ruler and added another line to that measurement.

After that, I cut off the inside square. A diagonal line was cut through the stitching at the corners at each corner. This line was not cut through the stitching.

I cut a 13″ × 13″ piece of transparent plastic from a sheet of clear plastic. I used Washi Tape to create a “+” on the plastic, which resulted in “Faux” window panes. I pushed the 3/4 button “the window opening to the outside along the line that has been drawn Afterwards, I used a safety pin to secure the plastic to the exterior of the window aperture. Last but not least, I lay 1 “Place a single fold of bias tape on top of the plastic sheeting. I stitched a straight stitch on the inside edge through the bias tape, plastic, and window opening, pleating the corners as I went and turning the raw edge of the bias tape under at the end of the seam to finish it off.

• Following that, I cut and stitched two orange tabs, much as I did for the door.
• Using a needle and thread, I stitched the tabs to the interior of the tent between the velcro and above the window hole.
• I hemmed both the sides and the bottom with a thin stitch.
• Next, the flap was stitched in place above the window and below the velcro, sewing across both tabs of the flap.
• Part 2 – The Bed Wall Comes to an End To begin, I cut a rectangle of blue chambray fabric and hemmed the sides and bottom of the piece of clothing.
• The View Through the Window I traced around the window template and then traced again 3/4″ within the previous line to create the frame.
• I stayed sewn once more (straight stitched 2 inches on both sides of each corner).

The remaining 3/4″ of fabric was pressed to the inside of the garment along the drawn line.

The Bias Tape was then sewn into place on the inner edge, with the corners pleated and stitched in place.

I hemmed both the sides and the bottom with a thin stitch.

The Third Section – The Rear Wall Alex requested that I use flannel woodgrain fabric on this wall, which I did.

I made the necessary adjustments to the width.

I hemmed both center edges of the tablecloth.

(See the photograph below.) The sides and bottoms were then hemmed, and two velcro strips were sewn to the top of the garment.

I made four tabs and stitched two on the inside and two on the outside of the bag.

It was necessary to attach the tabs at an angle to allow the tent flaps to hang correctly. Because the front side of this cloth is brighter than the back side, Alex wanted that side to be visible from the outside. After unhooking the tabs, the tent flaps will hang straight when they are not in use.

The Head of the Bed Wall is the fourth section. I saved the most straightforward wall for last! It just took a few minutes to cut a rectangle out of the blue chambray fabric, hem the sides and bottom, and attach the velcro to the top to complete the final tent wall! It’s now time to finish up the Tent for the Bunk Beds! When I asked Alex what he liked most about his sleeping tent, he responded as follows: Alex: I’m sorry, but I’m not sure I understand what you’re saying “Because it’s darker, it’s easier to fall asleep.

Do any other mums out there despise their children’s bunk beds to the extreme? Changing the sheets is nearly impossible, tucking a child into the top bunk is quite difficult, and sitting on the side of the bed to tell tales or sing songs is completely impossible. So, enough with the whining.

Let’s fast forward to a couple of months ago.

In fact, it was the best thing I ever did, but that’s a subject for another day.

I made the decision to give her concept a bit more permanence, and I’m very pleased I did!

As an added benefit, after witnessing how simple it was to construct these curtains, 10-year-old Boo has taken up sewing as a new passion.

All you need is a twin sheet and some inexpensive spring curtain rods to complete this project.

We even had enough extra fabric left enough for Boo to make herself a couple of pillows out of the leftovers. (So far, she’s produced five of them, and she and her pals have formed a sewing club to continue their work!)
