How To Change To Tent Mode Hp Spectre X360

Tent mode and auto rotation problem on Spectre x360 15 Kaby Lake G with Vega (CH012TX).

Solved! 13th of May, 2019 02:04 a.m. – updated at 02:05 a.m. on May 13, 2019 HP Recommended Spectre x360 15 CH012TX is the product name. Microsoft Windows 10 is the operating system (64-bit) Hello, everyone. I just received my machine (a Kaby Lake G with Vega) last week, and it is fantastic, with the exception of one little flaw. The autorotation feature. Mine would usually fail after a few hours of continuous use (no longer rotating, auto rotate button greyed). Here’s what I discovered after a few days of experimentation with it.

  1. The sensors are in perfect working order (as confirmed by sensor programs downloaded from the Windows Store)
  2. This may be resolved by either flashing the BIOS or holding the power button for 10 seconds while the device is turned off. It only works for a few hours until the problem reappears, which happens every time. This is due to the “Intel virtual button driver,” which is the source of the problem. Device rotation is restored when this program is uninstalled. The keyboard and touchpad, on the other hand, are not disabled when in tent mode. I tried virtually everything, including a fresh reset, a fresh Windows install (I haven’t tried Windows 10 1709 yet), upgrading to the most recent Windows version, and a registry patch, but there was no improvement. Post a comment on the HP help page if someone else is experiencing the same problem and has not found a solution. Support didn’t even respond to the initial commenter (who commented 2 months ago)
  3. Instead, they ignored the whole thread. This appears to be a typical problem with Spectre 2 in 1, however the solution appears to be random
  4. With Windows 10 1803 and KeyStroke, I can manually deactivate my keyboard if I want to use it as a huge tablet. I’m now removing the Intel virtual button driver and utilizing Windows 10 1803.

Is there anyone else in this room that is experiencing the same problem? This appears to be a straightforward repair for the driver team at Intel and HP, but there has been no resolution to the problem to far. If so, what steps do you take to rectify the situation?

Spectre X360 Screen Rotation button greyed out

@Mustangguy, Welcome to the HP Discussion Forums! Thank you for submitting your question to our forum; it is an excellent resource for finding answers. After reading your article, I realize that the screen rotation button has been disabled by default. Don’t be concerned; I will do all in my power to resolve this situation. It is necessary for me to obtain a few further facts in order to offer you with an accurate response.

  • When was the last time your PC was in perfect working order? Is it true that you have made any software or hardware modifications to your computer? Have you gone through any troubleshooting processes prior to submitting this?

While you’re thinking about how to reply, I propose that you try the actions below to see if they help.

  1. Open the Settings App and navigate to the SystemDisplay section
  2. FindOrientation and selectPortrait from the drop-down box
  3. Automatically switching to portrait mode should occur on your device.

Solution 2 – Disconnect your keyboard from your computer. Try unplugging your keyboard and reconnecting it to see if the Rotation Lock option becomes available. Check to see whether this has resolved the problem. Change to tablet mode as a third option. If your device does not automatically transition to Tablet Mode, you may manually switch to Tablet Mode by doing the following steps:

  1. TheAction Centerbutton in the Taskbar should be selected. When the Action Center appears, select Tablet Mode from the drop-down menu.

If you want, you may enter Tablet Mode from the Settings app:

  1. SystemTablet Mode
  2. OpenSettingsSystemTablet Mode
  3. In order to use your device as a tablet, make sure that the Make Windows more touch-friendly when using your device as a tablet option is enabled. If you so want, you may also customize how your device operates when it is automatically switched into or out of Tablet Mode.

Solution 4 – Modify the value of the Last Orientation registry key. Changing some registry variables may be necessary if you are experiencing issues with Rotation Lock or if the rotation function on your device is not functioning properly. Follow these steps to accomplish this:

  1. Typeregedit by using the Windows Key + the Rand key combination. To enter, press Enter or click OK. Upon launching the Registry Editor, you must browse to the following key in the left pane:
  • HKEY LOCAL MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionAutoRotation
  1. Using the right pane, locateLastOrientation and double-click on it. Enter 0 in the Value databox and click OK to save your changes. As soon as you find SensorPresentDWORD accessible, double-click it and ensure that its value is set to 1.

Solution 5 – Uninstall and reinstall your display driver software. It is possible that your display drivers are causing difficulties with Rotation Lock, in which case you may need to update or remove them to resolve the issue. You may delete your drivers by doing the following steps:

  1. Select Device Manager from the list by pressing the Windows Key + X combination. Select your driver from the Display Adapters section of the window that appears once Device Manager has been opened. Uninstall the driver by selecting it from the context menu on the right. Restart your device after you have completed the uninstallation of the driver.

If the problem persists, it is possible that you will need to upgrade your display adapters. Follow these steps to accomplish this:

  1. Locate your display adapter driver by opening Device Manager and searching for it. Right-click it and select “Update Driver Software” from the context menu. Follow the steps for one of the choices you’ve selected.

Rotation Lock disabled and keyboard won’t turn off – Windows 10 Support

Posted on May 20, 2020, at 3:52 p.m. My HP Spectre chose to disengage the rotation lock on its own own. It has been grayed out. Even when the tablet is in tablet mode, the keyboard will not switch off as it normally would. For days, I’ve been searching for a solution on Google. So far, I’ve tried everything:-Going into control panel settings (it’s still greyed out there as well)-Using tablet and tent mode (it still doesn’t work)-Updating drivers and restarting (it still doesn’t work)-Using PC Repair and sensor diagnostics tools (nothing is wrong)-Uninstalling Intel Virtual Buttons (made no difference)-Changing the registry edit: HKEY_ So I restart my computer and find that Auto Rotation is still locked and that Enable has been reset to 0 again.

Every time I reboot, it reverts back to 0, but at no point, prior or after restarting, did there appear to be any improvement in the Auto Rotation issue.Windows 10 on an HP Spectre x360, if that is of any assistance.

Got a new 2-in-1? Here are 5 ways to use it better

The following article is for you if you’re the proud new owner of a two-in-one PC (also known as a convertible laptop). Two-in-one computers have come a long way since the release of Windows 8 in 2012, but if you’ve never used one before, it’s possible that you’re not entirely sure how it will fit into your life. That is very understandable, to be honest. It wasn’t until I began using a convertible on a daily basis – one with the display permanently linked to the keyboard – that I began to grasp the many advantages of this design over just utilizing a laptop.

In spite of the fact that you are not a normal tablet user, the touchscreen may be put to good use in various ways owing to the 360-degree hinges that allow you to swivel the keyboard around.

Once you stop thinking of it as a laptoportablet and start utilizing the in-between configurations, which are commonly referred to as tent and stand modes, the design’s versatility becomes apparent and pays dividends.

From two-in-one to all-in-one

CNET photo by Sarah Tew However, while I’m working at a desk, I’d much rather use a full-size keyboard and mouse rather than the ones that came with my two in one. If you use a standard laptop, you’ll find yourself sitting quite a distance away from your screen. With a two-in-one, however, you can push your larger keyboard right up to the screen by flipping the smaller keyboard below. In addition, using the touchscreen when desired is made easier as a result of this. Include a laptop stand to elevate the display, which can decrease neck and shoulder pain while also placing the webcam in a more comfortable position for video conferencing sessions.

Echo Show to go

CNET photo by Sarah Tew Amazon’s newest Echo Showcombines an 8-inch screen, microphones, and speakers with the company’s virtual assistant, Alexa, to provide a powerful combination of functionality. What else does it have? You know what else it has? A power cord is required. When you install the Alexa app for Windows 10 on a dual monitor, you’ll have an Echo Show that you can place wherever in your home or business – kitchen, living room, bedroom, or office. There are laptops that have Alexa integrated in, which allows them to be used hands-free, but the software will operate on any PC that has an internet connection.

It is recommended that you try it out if you have embraced Alexa for everything from setting reminders to regulating your thermostat to getting toilet paper and everything in between.

Kitchen companion

CNET photo by Sarah Tew To do chores like as locating and presenting recipes, establishing shopping lists, watching instructional videos, converting measures and setting timers in the kitchen, a tablet is an excellent tool to have on hand. A two-in-one can do all of these functions as well, and it does so without the need for a stand. Windows 10 and Chrome OS, on the other hand, allow you to effortlessly resize and rearrange windows so that everything you need is on a single screen. I recommend that you use it in tent mode – either horizontally or vertically – and that you wrap your display in plastic wrap to keep it as clean as possible (yes, the touchscreen will still work).

You can also use Cortana, Microsoft’s virtual assistant, to work handsfree on Windows 10 or Google Assistant on a Chromebook two-in-one to work handsfree on a Chromebook.

CNET’s top two-in-one laptops

People nowadays, depending on their age, may not remember a period when displays did not offer touch input, which makes a hybrid device a logical fit for their needs. For my children, using one as a tablet for reading and sketching is an unavoidable fact of life. When it comes to casual games, on the other hand, it is typically used in tent mode.

Furthermore, if your children use Chromebooks for school, newer models are compatible with Android apps from the Google Play store, allowing you to choose from a broad variety of alternatives designed specifically for touch screens.

HP Spectre x360 14 Review

The Spectre x360 13 is still available for purchase from HP, however it is no longer supported. The Spectre x360 14 (starting at $1,299.99; $1,699.99 as tested) is a stylish convertible laptop that replaces the older system’s 13.3-inch touch screen—and its familiar 16:9 aspect ratio—with a 13.5-inch panel with a squarer 3:2 ratio, which provides a more pleasing viewing experience for text and web page content. The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1’s 16:10 display is essentially saying, “I see you and raise my hand.” When you combine it with flawless craftsmanship, stunning OLED screen technology, a stylus pen, and a USB Type-A connection, which the Dell does not have, the Spectre edges out the XPS 13 2-in-1 to become our new favorite premium convertible, earning the Editors’ Choice award.

Spectral Analysis: Sleek, Svelte, and Stylish

Due to the fact that it is an Intel Evolaptop, the Spectre x360 14 is equipped with some of the chipmaker’s most recent advancements, including as quick wake technology, Thunderbolt 4 connections, and an 11th Generation “Tiger Lake” CPU with Iris Xe integrated graphics. According to HP.com, the $1,299.99 base model (which is now reduced to $999.99) comes with a Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB solid-state drive, and a touch screen with resolution of 1,920 by 1,280 pixels. A privacy screen from HP’s Sure View Reflect collection is optional; a rechargeable tilt pen and carrying case are included as standard.

In the last year, our experts have evaluated 138 products in the Laptops category.

(See how we do our tests.) In addition to an OLED touch panel with 3,000 by 2,000-pixel resolution and 100 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut, our test unit includes a quad-core, 2.8GHz (4.7GHz turbo) Core i7-1165G7 CPU, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD bolstered by 32GB of Intel Optane Memory.

  • Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth are included, however customers who travel far from hotspots may be disappointed to learn that there is no WWAN capability.
  • It’s also available in two other colors: Nightfall Black with Copper Luxe accents and Poseidon Blue with Pale Brass accents, both of which are $10 more expensive than the basic silver version.
  • (While lifting the lid, you must keep the base firmly in place.) Two hinges allow you to fold the display back into the easel, tent, and tablet configurations that hybrid users are familiar with.
  • With dimensions of 0.67 by 11.8 by 8.7 inches, the system is somewhat deeper and slightly heavier than the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (0.56 by 11.7 by 8.2 inches), as well as slightly smaller and slightly heavier (2.95 versus 2.9 pounds).
  • Despite the fact that the screen bezels are extremely narrow (HP claims a 90.33 percent screen-to-body ratio), the camera is suitably positioned, above rather than below the display.
  • Along with an audio jack and a microSD card slot, you’ll find two Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports on the right side (technically, one is located on the side while the other, which is suited for the AC adapter, is located in a diagonally-cut back corner).

If your external display isn’t equipped with a Thunderbolt or USB-C port, you’ll need to purchase a USB-C dongle, just as you did with the Dell laptop. The ZenBook Flip S, on the other hand, receives points for including an HDMI port, but it also has points deducted for not including an audio jack.

A New Perspective: Awed by OLED

It’s not uncommon to see displays with 3:2 aspect ratios on the market. Their usage in different Surface Protablets and Surface Laptopclamshells by Microsoft is well documented, and the Acer Spin 713 is one of our favorite Chromebooks. However, after you’ve become acclimated to the about 20% taller perspective of browsers and productivity programs, it’s difficult to go back to a 16:9 monitor (unless you use your laptop primarily for watching videos). The Spectre’s OLED screen is a pleasure to behold, with enough of brightness, extreme contrast, clean white backgrounds, and deep blacks to choose from.

  • The two-button tilt stylus kept up with my quickest swipes and scribbles in tablet mode, and it provided a nice pen-on-paper feel as well as effective palm rejection when I rested my wrist on the tablet’s glass surface.
  • Aside from that, the brilliantly lighted keyboard is adequate, with separate Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down buttons, as well as a shallow yet fast typing experience.
  • I’ll explain more about the latter in a moment.
  • The touchpad is devoid of buttons.
  • Pictures taken with it have a bit soft focus, but they’re still quite bright, colorful, and static-free.
  • The bass is audible, and it’s simple to tell the difference between overlapping songs.
  • The HP Command Center window that appears allows you to enable application-based network prioritizing.
  • In our benchmark testing, I picked the performance option; in our battery-life evaluation, I used Smart Sense.) A Focus Mode toggle dims the screen except for the window that is now active.

Amazon Alexa, as well as ExpressVPN, McAfee LiveSafe, and LastPass trials, are all included with the Windows 10 Home operating system. It’s also worth noting that the in-bag detection feature prevents your laptop from overheating when it’s in your briefcase.

Performance Testing: A Convertible Clash

As previously said, I matched the Spectre x360 14 against three premium 2-in-1 models: the Lenovo Yoga 9i, the Asus ZenBook Flip S, and the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 for our benchmark comparisons. The last spot went to the HP Envy x360 13, which was our Editors’ Choice winner among mid-priced convertibles and is powered by an AMD Ryzen 5 processor, which is a departure from the previous generation “Tiger Lake” Core i7 processors. The fundamental specifications of the candidates are listed in the table below.

Productivity and Media Tests

PCMark 10 and 8 are comprehensive performance suites designed by the UL’s PC benchmark specialists to measure overall system performance (formerly Futuremark). A variety of real-world productivity and content-creation activities are emulated in the PCMark 10 test that we conduct. We utilize it to evaluate the overall performance of the system when doing office-centric operations such as word processing, spreadsheet jockeying, web surfing, and videoconferencing. PCMark 8, on the other hand, includes a storage subtest that we may utilize to determine the performance of the system’s boot disk.

  1. (For additional information on how we evaluate laptops, go here.) In PCMark 10, all five hybrids scored higher than 4,000 points, indicating high levels of productivity, with the Spectre taking the top spot and the Yoga taking second.
  2. The next test is Maxon’s CPU-intensive Cinebench R15 test, which is fully threaded to take advantage of all available processor cores and threads, and is the most demanding.
  3. The outcome is a proprietary score that indicates a PC’s aptitude for workloads that are computationally taxing.
  4. It is also a difficult test for multi-core, multi-threaded CPUs; the lesser the duration, the better the performance.
  5. The Spectre delivered a strong performance.
  6. With the help of a Creative Cloud version of Photoshop that was released in early 2018, we applied a series of 10 complicated filters and effects on a typical JPEG test image for this article.
  7. (Shorter periods of time are preferable.) Even though the Photoshop test puts a strain on the CPU, storage subsystem, and memory, it can also take use of most GPUs to speed up the process of applying filters to images.

The Spectre’s quick response time and excellent screen make it an excellent choice for picture management, however I did have some difficulty removing my microSD card from the device’s slot.

Graphics Tests

By producing sequences of extremely realistic, gaming-style 3D visuals with an emphasis on particles and lighting, 3DMark assesses the relative strength of a user’s graphics muscle. We conduct two distinct 3DMark subtests, Sky Diver and Fire Strike, to see how well our graphics cards perform. Both are DirectX 11 benchmarks, but Sky Diver is better suited to laptops and midrange PCs, whilst Fire Strike is more demanding and allows high-end PCs and gaming rigs to show off their prowess. Sky Diver is also more suited to laptops and midrange PCs.

With the help of Intel’s Iris Xe graphics processor, the integrated graphics on these laptops can perform some light or casual gaming, but they are no match for the discrete GPUs seen in “real” gaming notebooks.

A similar test to 3DMark, the Superposition test displays and pans over a complex 3D environment, this time generated in the namesake Unigine engine, in order to provide a second opinion on the machine’s graphics capabilities.

Intel’s Iris Xe graphics are far better than the company’s earlier integrated UHD Graphics solutions, but it isn’t saying much when it comes to really demanding graphics tasks like the 1080p test we conducted here in this article.

Battery Rundown Test

As soon as we’ve fully recharged the laptop, we put it into power-saving mode (as opposed to balanced or high-performance mode) and make a few minor battery-saving adjustments in preparation for our unplugged video rundown test. The laptop is placed in airplane mode once we switch off Wi-Fi and turn it off. In this test, we play a video (a locally saved 720p clip of the Blender Foundation short filmTears of Steel) on loop with the screen brightness set to 50% and the volume set to 100% until the machine shuts itself down completely.

The other devices should be able to get you through a full day of work or school; the two OLED screens were the most draining on battery life, although the Spectre outlasted the ZenBook by a significant margin.

The Verdict: We Have a Winner

Competition among high-end convertible laptops is intense, but the screen of the HP Spectre x360 14’s 3:2 aspect ratio would be a game-changer even if it didn’t have the benefit of the company’s brilliant OLED technology. In fact, apart from the fact that we wish it had an HDMI connector, we can’t think of anything negative to say about this laptop. It has the same great design and OLED awesomeness as its 15.6-inch sister, but it is far lighter and simpler to transport. Not only does it merit our Editors’ Choice award in its area, but it also rates among our top four or five laptops overall, according to our criteria.

The Bottom Line

His large OLED screen and elegant, well-thought-out design elevate the HP Spectre x360 14 14-inch convertible laptop to the top of the convertible laptop rankings. Subscribe to Lab Report/strong> to receive the newest product reviews and expert product recommendations sent directly to your email.

HP’s latest Spectre x360 is an excellent laptop with one major flaw

It wasn’t all that long ago that the concept of an HP laptop that was decent was little more than a pipe dream for many people. Although the business has gone a long way from its unattractive, plasticky looks of a few years ago, it’s Spectre brand of high-end Windows laptops has been on my shortlist of suggestions for folks who are in the market for a new computer for a while now. However, while HP has experimented with a number of unusual designs in the Spectre brand over the years, the Spectre x360 has proven to be the workhorse of the line, and it is available in both 13-inch and 15-inch models.

  1. It has been a few weeks since I’ve been using the 13-inch model, which is priced starting at $1,149 and selling for $1,349 as tested, and I can certainly declare that it is HP’s most powerful Spectre x360 to date.
  2. However, there are still a few places that might be improved upon.
  3. A 360-degree hinge, which allows the display to be hidden behind the keyboard, makes it a 2-in-1 convertible device.
  4. Although the 1080p model that I’ve been testing is exceptionally bright and pleasing to the eye, I don’t believe that it is required at this size to upgrade to 4K.
  5. While compared to competing Windows and Apple laptops with 3:2 or 16:10 aspect ratios, the screen of the XPS 13 appears constricted when browsing the web or conducting productivity work.
  6. HP has introduced a number of business-oriented devices featuring 3:2 aspect ratio screens.
  7. The large bezel above the display has a Windows Hello-compatible camera for quick facial verification, and a Windows Hello-compatible fingerprint scanner can be found on the deck right beneath the keyboard.

Even if that switch is turned on, you will be able to log in using the fingerprint scanner.

The sides of the laptop are the most noticeable differences between it and previous generations.

In addition to relocating the fingerprint scanner to the keyboard deck and including a camera privacy switch, HP relocated the power button and one Thunderbolt 3 connector to the back corners of the laptop, where they are somewhat out of the way and out of the way.

However, because HP removed the volume rocker off the side of the device, if you’re using the x360 in its tablet or tent modes, the only method to adjust the volume is to use the on-screen controls in Windows 10.

In place of the microSD slot, I would have preferred a full-size SD card slot, but alas, full-size SD card slots for 13-inch laptops are becoming increasingly rare.

The tent mode is more handy for viewing movies on a plane when traveling, but it’s safe to say that the x360’s standard hinge is nowhere near as cool or practical as the Spectre Folio’s innovative design.

All of the keys are uniformly lighted, and there is ample of travel and room between them.

I don’t believe it’s nearly as nice as the Surface Laptop or Surface Book’s keyboard, but I think it’s superior to the Dell XPS 13’s and, certainly, to the current MacBook keyboards in terms of overall quality.

As is customary with HP laptops, the hardware is excellent – the trackpad is huge, smooth, and glossy — however, like every other HP laptop, the trackpad is powered by awful Synaptics drivers rather than the considerably superior Windows Precision drivers that every other laptop manufacturer has adopted.

The length of time that elapses between when I begin a gesture and when the system responds is exasperating.

It’s not as awful as the Spectre Folio’s trackpad, which is nearly useless, but it’s still not very nice either.

When it comes to doing standard productivity chores, the x360 doesn’t miss a beat.

It is not, however, capable of gaming or video editing because it retains its integrated graphics, and there is no option for standalone graphics in the 13-inch variant.

When it comes to battery life, though, the Spectre isn’t far behind the competition.

When the display’s brightness is set to a reasonable level, the Spectre x360 has no issue keeping up with the demands of a typical workday.

The battery life of 22.5 hours claimed by HP is based on a looping video test, and you can expect to get 10 to 12 hours between charges if you use it as a computer.

Due to the lack of a dedicated storage area on the laptop itself, the pen is prone to becoming misplaced, and it appears to be an afterthought.

This is still such a rare feature for consumer laptops that the fact that it is available here makes me really thrilled.

HP has polished and iterated on this computer for four generations, and tweaks like as the relocation of the power button and the addition of a physical camera switch demonstrate that the corporation is paying attention to customer feedback.

The same can be said for its overall performance and battery life as well.

However, a poor trackpad experience may make or break an otherwise excellent laptop, and the Spectre x360’s touchpad is almost on the cusp of being unusable.

If HP is able to find this out, it might have a laptop that is close to flawless in terms of performance.
