If you’re backpacking, the ideal peak height range is 35 to 45 inches: any lower, and your tent will start to feel more like a coffin rather than simply “cozy”; any higher, and you’ll sacrifice stability in high winds and pay a price in terms of weight – extra height means extra fabric, and more fabric means more poundage; and any combination of the two will be uncomfortable.

This is primarily because you won’t have to carry your tent as far before pitching it and because established campsites are typically less exposed to the wind than wild campsites, which allows you to save money on your tent purchase.

In the event that you or one of your camping companions is over 6 feet tall, a tent with a peak height greater than 72 inches is the greatest option; if your camping companions are shorter or merely content to lean over to escape the roof canopy, peak heights between 60 and 70 inches will suffice.

What Size Tent Do I Need?

When determining what size tent you require, there are a variety of criteria that must be considered in order to arrive at a final decision. The first set of questions you should ask yourself are as follows: 1.In what location would the tent be set up? 2.Are there any constraints on the size of the area in question? The tent will be set up on concrete or asphalt, or will it be on grass? Once you have a general concept of where it is going and the greatest size that can be accommodated in your area, we may limit it down further based on a few other considerations.

1. When you have 120 visitors, would everyone be seated at the same time or will it be more of a cocktail type gathering with standing and seating?
2. 4.Is it a band?
3. 6.Bar?
4. 8.Will there be a table for a guest book, gifts, and favors?
5. The following example event will be used to demonstrate how I would determine the appropriate size tent for that occasion.

• The total number of guests was 120. – Gathering style: Cocktail reception with a mix of people – A band or a disc jockey: A stage will be required for the band. – Is there enough room on the dancefloor? Extra tables: pedestal tables for standing, buffet, bar, guest bookfavor table, gift table, and a cake table

Because I am hosting a mixed-style reception, I would want to seat around 75% of the total number of attendees. There will be space for 90 people at five-foot-round tables with ten individuals at each table. Check with your caterer to learn what they will require for the buffet before purchasing anything. To illustrate, we will use three 8′ tables for the buffet and two 8′ tables for the bar in this scenario: We will need (1) 4′ round table for the cake table, (1) 4′ round table for the gift table, (1) 8′ long table for the guest bookfavor table, and about (6) pedestal tables for standing around the cake table.

So far, the following is what we will want additional room for: a total of nine 5′ round tables and chairs (6) pedestal tables are required.

We’re trying to figure out how many square feet we’ll require.

Personally, I would choose for one of the larger models, as I enjoy having additional space beneath a tent while I am camping.
